What are the responsibilities and job description for the Controller position at SeekOne Roofing Company?
SeekOne Roofing Company · Brentwood, TN · Full-time, on-site
For the Accountant Ready to Build, Not Inherit
Most controllers inherit a finance function someone else built. At SeekOne, you'll build it.
We've doubled revenue four years in a row and now run branches in Tennessee and Alabama. Growth like that outruns the accounting that worked a year ago. We need a full-time leader who keeps the numbers as sharp as the growth.
Who We Are
SeekOne was founded by Jordan White and Conner Hammer, who came up through roofing and construction at both large corporations and small, scrappy companies. Headquartered in Brentwood, Tennessee, we are one of the largest and fastest-growing roofing contractors in the country.
- #89 on the Roofing Contractor Top 100, the largest roofing contractors in the U.S. (2025)
- #361 on the Inc. 5000, the fastest-growing private companies in America (2025)
- Huntsville, AL branch opened in 2025 and doubled revenue year over year
- Member of the National Roofing Contractors Association and the Better Business Bureau
We don't open markets on a whim. We open them when we have the right leader, the right plan, and the systems to support them. Accounting is one of those systems.
The Role
You'll own accounting for SeekOne from our Brentwood headquarters: the monthly close, job costing, and the controls behind every number leadership sees. You'll report to Conner Hammer, co-founder and COO, and work alongside our outside CFO, who leads forecasting and strategy.
This is a hands-on role. You'll be in the books every day, not just reviewing them.
What You'll Do
Own the close. Close the books for our Tennessee and Alabama entities every month in QuickBooks Online, on time and fully reconciled.
Own job costing. Make sure every job carries its true cost for materials, labor, and commissions. Catch margin problems while a job is still open, not after it closes.
Run WIP and revenue recognition. Keep the work-in-progress schedule current and recognize revenue correctly on jobs that span month-end.
Oversee AP, AR, and payroll. Vendors and crews get paid accurately and on time. Receivables get collected.
Manage cash. Give leadership a weekly view of cash, receivables, and payables so nothing is a surprise.
Keep us compliant. Handle sales and use tax, 1099s, and multi-state filings, and work with our outside CPA at tax time.
Build for the next branch. Standardize how we account for a location so a new market can be added without rebuilding the books.
Your First Year
- First 90 days: Learn the books for both entities, take over the monthly close, and document how things work today.
- By month 6: A faster, repeatable close with a checklist anyone on the team could follow.
- By year 1: Job-level margin reporting that leadership trusts, and an accounting function ready for our next branch.
Who You Are
You're an accountant who likes building as much as closing. You'd rather fix a broken process than work around it, and you can explain a variance to a branch manager without losing them.
Required:
- 5 years of accounting experience, including at least 2 years leading a month-end close
- Experience in construction, roofing, or another job-based business, with hands-on job costing and WIP
- Experience keeping books for more than one entity
- Working knowledge of QuickBooks Online or a comparable accounting system
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance, or equivalent experience
Nice to have:
- CPA license
- Experience at a company that doubled in size while you were there
- Multi-state sales tax and payroll experience
- Experience supervising AP, AR, or payroll staff
What We Offer
- Ownership of the accounting function at a nationally ranked contractor
- Direct access to both founders and a seat with the leadership team
- A real path to grow with the company as we expand across the Southeast
- A culture centered on people, accountability, teamwork, and faith
Our Values
BLESSED: We recognize the opportunity we've been given and treat people with gratitude.
FOCUSED: We know what matters and execute it well.
COMMITTED: We do what we say we're going to do.
