Based in Newark, NJ, with site locations across the tri-state area, the SEEDS team of 25 professionals serves hundreds of students each year through our middle school, high school, and college programs. POSITION OBJECTIVES
We are currently seeking instructors for “College 101.” This course, offered to students in the spring semester of their junior year, covers the college admissions process from an initial discovery and research phase through application preparation. Instructors should be prepared to teach admissions-oriented writing and life skills in addition to discussing the challenges associated with the college admissions process. Instructors will be provided with a comprehensive curriculum including readings, assessments, and assignments. Each instructor will also have the liberty to approach teaching the course in a way that matches their pedagogical personality.
Candidates for this position must have a comprehensive understanding of college counseling and/or admissions. Priority will be given to candidates with previous experience as a college counselor, admissions officer, and teaching experience with high school or college-aged students. Teaching certification is not required.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Teach “College 101” as established in the SEEDS curriculum guide
- Teach a minimum of 15 students each Saturday throughout the spring semester
- Review, correct, and comment on writing assignments, exams, and projects
- Develop strong relationships with students
- Attend and participate in faculty meetings with SEEDS staff
- Additional duties as needed
Faculty must also be prepared for remote instruction. Remote responsibilities and position requirements include:
- Ability to use online learning and digital tools including required platforms like Zoom and Google Classroom
- Ability to excel in a remote learning environment
- Ability to connect with students virtually
- Motivation to work independently
- A team-oriented teaching style and approach
- Reliable access to technology including laptop and reliable internet connection
QUALIFICATIONS
Education & Experience
- Expert level mastery of college application and placement
- Awareness of current trends and topics in college admissions
- Genuine enthusiasm for working with students in college access
- Excellent written and oral skills
- Teaching experience in a rigorous academic environment, including work with highly capable students
- Demonstrated talent in the instruction of students with varied learning styles and levels of mastery

STIPEND: $175 per Saturday ($25 per hour, 9am – 4pm); paid monthly (subject to all applicable tax-withholding and other required deductions)
