ABOUT THE TEAM
The Communications Department is responsible for overseeing the agency’s strategic communications and branding efforts. This includes the development of marketing materials, coordination of development initiatives, and management of both internal and external events. The department also leads the creation of video content, social media strategy and engagement, and the maintenance and optimization of the SEEC website.
IN THIS ROLE, YOU'LL:
- Provide strategic leadership for all communications and development functions, aligning efforts with the organization’s mission, vision, and long-term goals.
- Develop and implement an integrated communications and fundraising strategy to increase visibility, engagement, and revenue from diverse funding sources.
- Design and execute a comprehensive donor strategy, including identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of individual, corporate, and institutional donors.
- Expand and diversify the donor base by building meaningful relationships and strengthening donor engagement and retention.
- Identify, pursue, and grow grant opportunities, including overseeing proposal development, submission, and reporting processes.
- Cultivate and manage partnerships with corporate sponsors, foundations, and community stakeholders to support programmatic and organizational growth.
- Lead the development of compelling messaging, campaigns, and storytelling that effectively communicate the organization’s impact and inspire support.
- Collaborate across departments to ensure consistent branding, messaging, and alignment between communications and development initiatives.
- Oversee the creation and distribution of communications materials, including digital content, social media, newsletters, annual reports, and donor communications.
- Establish and maintain efficient, sustainable systems, processes, and workflows that support fundraising operations, donor tracking, and communication efforts.
- Utilize data and analytics to evaluate performance, inform strategy, and drive continuous improvement in communications and fundraising outcomes.
- Manage and mentor staff and/or consultants, fostering a collaborative, high-performing, and mission-driven team culture.
- Develop and manage budgets for communications and development activities, ensuring responsible and effective use of resources.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Provide leadership, direction, and oversight to communications and development staff, including hiring, onboarding, training, and performance management.
- Supervise and support team members, including communications managers, development officers, grant writers, and marketing staff (as applicable).
- Set clear goals, expectations, and performance metrics aligned with organizational priorities and strategic plans.
- Conduct regular performance evaluations, provide constructive feedback, and support the professional growth and development of team members.
- Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and mission-driven team culture that encourages innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Oversee the work of external vendors, consultants, and contractors (e.g., marketing agencies, PR firms, grant writers), ensuring alignment with organizational goals and quality standards.
- Coordinate cross-functional teamwork between communications, development, and other departments to ensure integrated and effective execution of strategies.
- Ensure staff have the tools, resources, and systems needed to perform their roles efficiently and effectively.
- Manage team workflows, prioritize projects, and ensure deadlines and deliverables are met.
- Support succession planning and organizational capacity building within the communications and development functions
ABOUT YOU
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Nonprofit Management, Business Administration, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
- Minimum of 5–7 years of progressively responsible experience in communications, fundraising, or development, preferably within a nonprofit organization.
- Demonstrated success in developing and implementing integrated communications and fundraising strategies.
- Proven track record of securing and growing revenue through individual giving, corporate partnerships, and grants.
- Experience expanding and diversifying a donor base, including cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of donors.
- Strong grant writing and grant management experience, including proposal development and reporting.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to craft compelling messaging for diverse audiences.
- Experience managing multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.
- Demonstrated leadership and supervisory experience, including managing and developing staff and/or cross-functional teams.
- Proficiency with donor databases/CRM systems and communications tools (e.g., email marketing platforms, social media).
- Strong analytical skills, including the ability to use data to inform strategy and measure performance.
- Ability to build and maintain relationships with diverse stakeholders, including donors, partners, board members, and community leaders.
