Role Description The Deputy is a full-time, on-site law enforcement role based in Wichita, KS. Responsibilities include patrolling assigned areas, responding to calls for service, enforcing laws and ordinances, and conducting traffic stops and investigations. Deputies may assist with arrest and booking procedures, provide courtroom security, and support the safe and secure operation of the county jail. The role involves preparing accurate reports, maintaining detailed records, and testifying in court when required. Deputies are expected to interact with community members in a professional manner, de-escalate conflicts, and collaborate with other public safety agencies during emergencies and critical incidents.
Qualifications

• Ability to perform core law enforcement duties, including patrol, investigation, arrest procedures, and report writing with attention to detail.
• Strong communication, interpersonal, and conflict-resolution skills to work effectively with colleagues, community members, and diverse populations.
• Demonstrated judgment, integrity, and decision-making abilities, particularly in high-pressure or rapidly changing situations.
• Physical fitness and stamina sufficient to perform duties such as standing for extended periods, running, climbing, and safely operating vehicles and equipment.
• Basic computer literacy and ability to use law enforcement systems for records management, documentation, and data entry.
• High school diploma or equivalent; completion of law enforcement academy or eligibility to attend a certified academy in Kansas.
• Ability to pass background checks, criminal history review, drug screening, and any required psychological or medical evaluations.
• Willingness to work various shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays, and to respond to emergencies as needed.
• Valid driver’s license with a good driving record; prior law enforcement, military, or public safety experience is beneficial.
