GENERAL SUMMARY
Responsible for ensuring that the safety and security requirements of the campus are met, with activities ranging from student conduct monitoring, vehicular traffic flow management, parent and guest engagement, employee activity support, and loss prevention operations. Enforces the school and district rules and regulations pertaining to student academic behavior. Responds to emergency situations if and when they arise. This position is aligned with York prep policy, emergency procedures and the direction of assigned administrators.
BASIC RESPONSIBILITIES
- Ensures that the general operations of the campus are conducted in a safe and secure way.
- Monitors student conduct and activities on a daily basis, including some communication with students.
- Assists in ensuring that the transportation activities on campus are handled in a safe and risk-free manner.
- Monitors after-school sporting events and occasional weekend activities, including building access.
- Participates as a first-responder as various needs might arise, ranging from first aid to crisis management.
- Controls, monitors, and archives data from over 120 security cameras across the campus.
- Primary point of contact on campus for third-party security and alarm monitoring.
- Primary point of contact on campus for municipal agencies (police, fire, EMS, etc.).
- Communicates safety and security policies and enforcement procedures to students, staff and visitors for the purpose of ensuring their understanding of such information and the potential consequences of violation.
- Adjust placement as directed by the building principal, Athletic Director, event administrator, incident coordinator or designee; prioritizing areas with students, families, larger crowds, increased traffic or elevated concern.
- Performs other duties related to safety, security, and campus policy enforcement, as assigned, with time-intense responsibilities during the school year months, often working from the mornings into the early evenings
MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
At least four years of law enforcement, school safety, military, emergency management, corrections or closely related public safety experience preferred; equivalent training and experience may be considered. Knowledge of emergency management operations and training in first aid is required. Self-defense skills expected. Demonstrated ability to pay close attention to details, to seek appropriate solutions to human relations problems, and to remain courteous and civil under duress is required. Other specific abilities required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: establishing and maintaining effective working relationships, working with frequent interruptions, setting priorities, maintaining a highly flexible schedule, working under minimal supervision, maintaining confidentiality, and representing YPA in a positive and professional way at all times.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT
The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require routine office activities, frequent canvassing of the campus, and ongoing communication. The work is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment.
