The Director of Mortgage Operations is responsible for providing day-to-day oversight to the Mortgage Operations team. They are responsible for ensuring all managed staff are aware of regulatory and system requirements and program guidelines that are required for completion of their work as well as the most efficient methods for using the department’s Loan Origination System to complete their tasks. In addition, the role requires a strong knowledge of secondary market underwriting and mortgage compliance.

JOB DESCRIPTION:
- Maintain in-depth knowledge and proficiency in executing secondary market underwriting.
- Stay up to date with industry trends, regulatory requirements, program guidelines and overall mortgage compliance requirements.
- Work with the mortgage compliance team to ensure adherence to compliance standards.
- Review and optimize processes to improve efficiency and minimize customer issues in the mortgage department.
- Suggest improvements in processes, workflow, and software systems based on research and analysis.
- Oversee the loan documentation process to ensure it meets underwriting and program guidelines.
- Handle daily loan processing tasks, including:
- Communicating regularly with lenders, applicants, and realtors.
- Submitting loan applications and documents for final approval.
- Reviewing title opinions and ensuring necessary corrections.
- Preparing final cost figures for closings and sharing them with all parties.
- Preparing closing documents to comply with regulations and investor requirements.
- Filing documents, paying bills, and preparing final documentation post-closing.
- Reviewing final attorney opinions to ensure all closing requirements are met.
- Compile and report on weekly/monthly pipeline, cycle times, and closings.
- Lead and support the mortgage operations team to create a proactive, collaborative work environment.
- Promote team growth through education, webinars, and training. Handle performance reviews, coaching, corrective actions, and hiring.
- Provide training on technical skills, policies, procedures, service standards, and team building.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- 4 year college degree or related work experience
- 2 years project management and/or supervision experience
- Strong aptitude for technology systems and processes
- Real estate and or closing experience
- Accuracy and meticulous attention to detail required
- Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
- Ability to navigate multiple computer systems and programs with working knowledge of Word and Excel
- Ability to manage multiple requests simultaneously, meet deadlines, and show flexibility to change direction when needed
- Team-oriented and the ability to work collaboratively across all levels of the organization
- Service-oriented, polite, and respectful
- Advanced problem-solving and analytical skills
- Ability to take direction and instruction and follow through independently until project completion
