ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR OF SECURITYJOB DESCRIPTION: ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR OF SECURITY JOB TITLE: Associate Director of SecurityCOMPENSATION: $100,000 with applicable fringe benefitsPOSITION SUMMARY:The Associate Director of Security supports the planning, coordination, and daily management of all campus security and safety operations for a premier independent academic institution serving students from Pre-K through Grade 12. The position assists in ensuring a safe, secure, and supportive environment for students, faculty, staff, parents, and visitors while maintaining alignment with the School’s mission, values, and culture of respect and community.The Associate Director plays a key leadership role in operational oversight, personnel supervision, emergency preparedness, and strategic safety planning. The position serves as the second-in-command to the Director of Security, assuming leadership responsibilities in their absence and supporting the seamless delivery of protective and preventative services across both campuses.PROCEDURE:This is a salaried - exempt, non-uniformed, mid-level management position to be staffed in the following manner:Monday through Friday, primarily between the time frame of 0800hrs – 1700hrs, and all other periods based on operational necessities including evenings, weekends and/or holidays.The Associate Director of Security position is staffed up to five (5) days a week, for an average of eight (8) hours a day but must have the flexibility to be available for all shifts, any day of the week, to include short notices, i.e., may be required to come in early, holdover or work as fill-in on days off. The individual assigned to this post is authorized to wear civilian clothing.RESPONSIBILITIESOperational Leadership· Assist in managing day-to-day campus security operations across the DC and MD campuses.· Oversee deployment, scheduling, and performance of security officers, ensuring 24/7 coverage and professional conduct.· Conduct routine inspections and post audits to ensure compliance with post orders, visitor management, and emergency response standards.· Collaborate with Facilities, IT, and Administration on access control, surveillance, and physical security enhancements.Training, Supervision, and Development· Supervise and mentor security supervisors and officers; provide performance feedback and ongoing professional development.· Support the Director of Security in training programs covering crisis management, first aid, de-escalation, and customer service.· Promote a campus culture of safety awareness through regular drills, briefings, and communication initiatives.Emergency Management and Incident Response· Assist in developing, updating, and executing the School’s Emergency Operations Plan.· Coordinate response to emergencies including medical incidents, intrusions, threats, or natural disasters.· Serve as a liaison with local law enforcement, fire departments, and emergency management agencies.· Conduct post-incident debriefs, reporting, and follow-up investigations.Administrative and Compliance· Maintain accurate logs, incident reports, and access records in compliance with school and legal standards.· Support the Director in managing budgets, vendor relationships, and equipment inventories.· Ensure compliance with DC Private Security Officer regulations and school policies.Technology & Infrastructure Oversight
