Job Details
We are seeking a Network Engineer to join our effort. This candidate will be responsible for finalizing the design and implementation of a BGP network that will serve as the backbone of our ISP.
Core Technical Requirements
- BGP Expertise: Ability to design, configure, and maintain BGP routing across multiple peers, including route reflection, policy controls, and failover scenarios.
- Network Architecture: Design scalable, redundant ISP-grade networks across core, distribution, and edge layers.
- Security: Knowledge of securing BGP sessions (MD5 authentication, prefix filtering, RPKI), firewall integration, and DDoS mitigation.
- Protocols & ISP Operations: OSPF, IS-IS, MPLS, VPNs, QoS, IPv4/IPv6 management, peering agreements, DNS/DHCP/IPAM.
Additional Attributes
- Hands-On Implementation: Configure routers/switches, troubleshoot, and operationalize the design.
- Vendor Experience: Cisco IOS-XR, Palo Alto NGFW, Infoblox, Nutanix, or comparable platforms.
- Monitoring & Documentation: NOC dashboards, SNMP/NetFlow, detailed runbooks, and network diagrams.
- Collaboration: Work effectively across city departments (Public Safety, Public Works, Schools, Libraries) and external providers.
Soft Skills
- Strong communication skills to explain complex designs to varied stakeholders.
- Problem-solving mindset for escalations and critical incidents.
- Background in municipal broadband or public sector networks is a plus.
