Position Overview
Overton ISD is seeking a caring, dependable, and student-focused Life Skills Instructional Aide to support students with diverse learning and functional needs. This position works closely with special education teachers and staff to provide academic, behavioral, and daily living support for students ranging from 2nd grade through high school in a structured, supportive, and positive learning environment.
The ideal candidate is compassionate, flexible, and committed to helping students grow academically, socially, and independently.
Primary Responsibilities
- Assist the teacher with instructional activities and individualized student support
- Provide academic, behavioral, and functional assistance to students based on individual needs and goals
- Support students with classroom routines, transitions, and organization
- Assist with implementation of accommodations and modifications as directed by the teacher
- Help prepare instructional materials and maintain a safe, structured classroom environment
- Support student supervision in classrooms, hallways, cafeteria, and other school settings
- Foster positive relationships with students while encouraging independence, confidence, and life skills development
- Assist with student personal care needs when necessary, following district procedures and training
Qualifications
Required
- High school diploma or equivalent
Preferred
- Experience working with children or individuals with special needs
- Ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively with staff, students, and families
