LOCATION:  Kenowa Hills Middle School or High School

START DATE/CALENDAR: 1/12/2025 per the 2025-26 District Calendar

SALARY/BENEFITS: As outlined in KHEA Collective Bargaining Agreement

 

SUMMARY: Kenowa Hills Middle and High Schools serve students in grades 6–12 with a strong commitment to academic excellence, personal development, and community engagement. As part of the Kenowa Hills Public Schools district, we emphasize hands-on learning, critical thinking, and meaningful real-world experiences. Our supportive and inclusive environment empowers students to grow both intellectually and socially, preparing them for success in high school and beyond. We are anticipating an opening at Kenowa Hills Middle or High School. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • We are looking for someone who is passionate about inspiring young minds and engaging students in hands-on, interdisciplinary, and interactive learning.
  • Must hold a valid State of Michigan teaching certificate with the ability to teach at the middle or school level with at least one of the following endorsements, (or the ability to demonstrate an appropriate endorsement, depending on vacancy type): 
    • English Language Arts (BX) 
    • Social Studies (RX)
    • English (BA)
    • Mathematics (EX)
    • Science (DX or DI)
    • Spanish (FF)
  • Successful experience with project-based learning, Restorative Practices and Capturing Kids’ Hearts preferred.
  • Knowledge of standards-­based, personalized instructional practices based on formative assessments preferred.
  • Required knowledge of skills and abilities related to diversity and cultural competence.
  • Knowledge of own competence in the area of diversity and how this influences own behavior and a desire to learn about others identities.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Prepare course objectives and outlines for course of study following curriculum guidelines or requirements of state and school.
  2. Establish and enforce classroom management procedures consistent with building and district protocol.
  3. Observe and evaluate student performance, behavior, social development, and physical health and report to parents as needed and required.
  4. Prepare materials and classroom for class activities.
  5. Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students’ varying needs and interests.
  6. Plan and conduct activities for a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and work time that provides students with opportunities to observe, question and investigate.
  7. Use a variety of media and methods in order to motivate students and best utilize available time for instruction.
  8. Establish clear objectives for all lessons, units and projects and communicate those objectives to the students.
  9. Assign and grade classwork and homework, adhering to building and district protocols.
  10. Prepare, administer and grade tests and assignments to evaluate students’ progress.
  11. Collaborate with other professional staff to enhance instruction and adapt and modify curriculum to meet individual student needs.
  12. Participate in the development and revision of goals and performance objectives for students, course content and learning activities, evaluate procedures and instructional materials.
  13. Keep attendance and grade records as required by the district.

The employee must have close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus to read printed materials and computer screens. Manual dexterity is required to operate standard office and instructional equipment.

 

The position requires the ability to move between classrooms, work areas, and occasional outdoor settings. The employee may be exposed to minor hazards related to the use of lab equipment, technology tools, or student projects, with standard safety precautions in place.

 

 

The employee must be able to maintain emotional control under stress, make quick decisions to ensure student safety, and manage multiple priorities with frequent interruptions.
