Overnight Residential Counselor

Second Story for Teens in Crisis is part of Second Story, a nonprofit that transforms the lives of youth and families in need by providing safe havens and opportunities to grow and thrive through residential and community-based programs. Our Teens in Crisis program is the only emergency home in Northern Virginia for teens aged 13 to 17, providing shelter, safety, counseling, and support during critical moments in a young person’s life.

We are hiring a full-time (30 hours per week) Overnight Residential Counselor. The ideal candidate is reliable, organized, compassionate, and capable of working independently with strong communication, problem-solving, and conflict resolution skills.

Responsibilities:

• Remaining awake to monitor residents throughout the night and ensure their safety via bed checks
• Maintaining a clean, organized, and secure living environment
• Answering crisis hotline calls
• Providing written case management, such as case notes and incident reports
• Conducting emergency intakes and discharges
• Assisting residents with their morning routines, including medication administration

Schedule (days/hours are non-negotiable): Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from 10:30pm-8:30am

• REQUIRED: Must have a bachelor’s degree (preferably in psychology, social work, human services, counseling, or a related field)
• REQUIRED: Must be willing to undergo a background investigation prior to employment and become certified in CPR/First Aid and Medication Administration
• REQUIRED: Some prior experience in the mental health field, especially with teens
• PREFERRED: Ability to speak Spanish

Compensation: $22 per hour
