GLORIA

SETTINGS: NYC, mid 2010’s. The midtown office of a magazine. / NYC 8 months later, a nearby Starbucks / Los Angeles, Several years later. The office of a Hollywood production company.

SEEKING:

GLORIA / NAN: One actor plays both roles - GLORIA - Any race or ethnicity, L30s. An editorial copy assistant at a magazine, who has remained in a junior position much longer than her coworkers. Socially isolated, awkward, and often the target of office gossip. Seems to want connection, but doesn’t know how to connect. Lonely and unpredictable. / NAN - Any race or ethnicity. E40s. A top editor of the magazine, Nan is self-confident, projects authority and competence. Sophisticated, canny, ambitious. Considers herself a thoughtful person.

DEAN / DEVIN: One actor plays both roles - DEAN - Caucasian, Extra-late 20s (on the verge of 30). An editorial assistant to NAN, and an aspiring writer. Smart, funny, ambitious, embittered and intensely anxious. Has a habit of showing up for work hungover. Although Dean sees himself as intellectually superior to many around him, his deep insecurities and professional frustration drive him to desperation. / DEVIN - Caucasian, 30ish. An IT staffer working at a Hollywood film production company. Used to being taken for granted by the people he works with.

KENDRA / JENNA: One actor plays both roles - KENDRA - Mid-to-late 20s. AAPI. A sharp and fiercely competitive editorial assistant who feels superior to many of the people she works with. Highly Intelligent and quick witted, opinionated, ambitious, and highly attuned to office politics. She sees herself as the alpha of the editorial assistants, as well as something of a fashionista. / JENNA - Mid-to-late 20s, AAPI. A successful development executive at a Hollywood production company. Confident, strategic, polished.

ANI / SASHA / CALLIE: One actor plays all three roles - ANI - E20s any ethnicity. An assistant in the office of the magazine and a recent college grad, she is one of the youngest employees in the office. Observant, eager, gets along well with her co-workers, she’s not yet jaded or threatened like most of her office-mates, though she looks to emulate them. / SASHA - E20s, any ethnicity, an editor at a publishing house who once worked as Nan’s assistant at the magazine, she’s moving up the corporate ladder with impressive speed . Smart, self-confident, and not afraid to be unkind. / CALLIE - any ethnicity, E20s. An assistant at a Hollywood production company. Hard working, curious, naive.

MILES / SHAWN / RASHAAD: One actor plays all three roles - MILES - Black, 20. An intern at the magazine, who, in the hierarchy of the office, is asked by the assistants to do the menial jobs they don’t want to do. A student at an ivy league college, he’s hard-working, with a quiet confidence and a positive outlook. / SHAWN - Black, 20. A barista at a midtown Starbucks. Blue-collar, youthful, more interested in talking to customers than making coffee. / RASHAAD - Black, 20s. Head of a Hollywood production company, smooth, confident, successful.

LORIN: any race or ethnicity, L30s. A longtime fact-checker at the magazine. Hard working, frazzled. Although he’s frustrated by the pace and weight of his work, he remains essentially kind and empathic, despite working long hours and a lack of recognition. Less cynical than his younger office mates, he is also less ambitious and more concerned with doing his job.
