Job Description

The Attendance Improvement Specialist is responsible for monitoring and improving student attendance across a designated cluster of schools, ensuring compliance with attendance policies, and supporting student retention efforts. This role leverages data to identify attendance trends across multiple sites, initiates timely interventions at key absence thresholds, and collaborates with school staff and families to address barriers to consistent attendance.

The Attendance Improvement Specialist ensures all attendance actions are properly documented, oversees truancy processes, supports withdrawal and re-engagement efforts, and provides regular KPI reports to school and executive leadership. By supporting multiple schools, this role drives consistency, accountability, and improved attendance outcomes across the assigned cluster.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Monitor and track daily student attendance across a designated cluster of schools to ensure accuracy and consistency.
  • Ensure teachers at all assigned schools complete and log daily attendance and outreach calls with fidelity.
  • Assesses students with excessive absences todeterminethe underlying cause of ongoing absences.
  • Analyze attendance data across the cluster toidentifytrends, high-risk students, and schools needing targeted support.
  • Conductoutreach to students and families experiencing attendance challenges.
  • Track and manage student absence thresholds (5, 7, and 10 days) and ensuretimelyinterventions are implemented.
  • Develop and implement individualized attendance plans in collaboration with identified students, families, and school staff.
  • These plans should include academicsupportthatleveragecore instruction, high-dosage tutoring, and/or intervention time, asappropriate.
  • Coordinate and oversee consistent attendance and truancy intervention processes across all assigned schools.
  • Print and mail truancy and attendance letters, ensuringtimelyand compliant communication with families.
  • Schedule and support Student Support/Child Study Team meetings and coordinate home visits for students unresponsive to interventions.
  • Partner with school staff to develop, implement, andmonitorindividualized attendance improvement plans for at-risk students.
  • Build partnerships with community organizations to support students and families.
  • Communicate and collaborate with parents/guardians to address attendance concerns and increase awareness of attendance expectations and laws.
  • Ensure all attendance interventions, outreach efforts, and communications are accurately documented in STARS and MIS across all schools.
  • Monitor and audit attendance documentation and processes to ensure compliance with policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Oversee and ensure fidelity to student withdrawal procedures, including proper documentation and intervention completion.
  • Conduct exit surveys for withdrawn students and manage monthly follow-ups to support re-engagement and re-enrollment efforts.
  • Develop and deliver monthly Attendance and Retention KPI reports for each school and the overall cluster,providingactionable insights to leadership.
  • Provide data-driven recommendations to improve attendance outcomes.
  • Lead and collaborate in regular attendance meetings with school leaders and staff to address barriers, align strategies, and improve attendance outcomes across the cluster.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education , Social Work, Counseling, or related field preferred.
  • 2 years of experience in student support, attendance management, or truancy intervention.
  • Strong data analysis and reporting skills;proficiencywith student information systems (STARS, MIS).
  • Knowledge of attendance policies, truancy laws, and best practices for student engagement.
  • Proficiencyin Microsoft Office and student information systems (e.g., PowerSchool, STARS, FOCUS or similar).
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
  • Ability to develop interventions,monitorprogress, and manage multiple schools or sites.
  • Ability to build relationships with students, families, and school staff across multiple locations.
  • Flexible, organized, and able to conduct home visits or attend school events as needed.
  • Valid state driver’s license
