What are the responsibilities and job description for the Chapter Chair position at Second Harvest?
🌟 High School Students Across the U.S.: Ready to Lead & Make Real Impact? 🌟
Looking for a meaningful extracurricular that builds leadership, serves your community, and actually makes a difference? Second Harvest is expanding—and we’re looking for Chapter Chairs to start and lead chapters at their school or county.
🥫 What You’ll Do as a Chapter Chair
You’ll lead a weekly food recovery initiative that fights food waste and supports local families:
- 🤝 Coordinate with your school’s cafeteria to collect unexpired, nutritious leftover food (think packaged fruits & veggies, yogurt, cheese sticks, milk/juice cartons, and more)
- 🚗 Deliver donations to a trusted local food bank within 2–3 days
- 🔁 Repeat the process weekly to create lasting impact
- 📋 Lead a small team to rotate responsibilities, document donations, and communicate with school staff
📍 Example: Our 9 chapters in Loudoun County partner with Loudoun Hunger Relief, the region’s leading food bank. They donate food there on a weekly basis, having done 2,500 pounds so far.
✨ Not into food pickup? No problem.
Chapter leaders can also get involved in:
- 📱 Creating Instagram posts, reels, and collaborations
- 🎓 Teaching elementary school students in your area via presentations about food waste & nutrition
- 💸 Fundraising for food banks and shelters by doing bake sales or partnering with chains
- 📢 Spreading awareness and driving community engagement
