Position Summary

The Rural Food Expansion Coordinator strengthens food access across Second Harvest of the Big Bend's rural service area by managing partner agency infrastructure investments, providing training and technical assistance, and supporting the Agency Relations team in building partner capacity, maintaining compliance, and expanding food access initiatives. The position oversees the procurement, deployment, and utilization of equipment such as cold storage, racking, and material-handling assets to increase food availability, product variety, and distribution capacity in rural communities. The position upholds the mission of Second Harvest of the Big Bend (SHBB): to advance change by feeding the hungry and educating and engaging the community in the fight to end hunger.

This is a time-limited position, beginning upon completion of the hiring process, and concluding on June 30, 2027. This position is funded through a grant. Continued employment is contingent upon availability of grant funding.

Position Responsibilities

  • Maintain a positive work attitude by acting and communicating in a manner conducive to good interpersonal relations (e.g., helpful, courteous, pleasant) with customers, all public, co-workers and managers, under the spirit of SHBB’s mission.
  • Manage the procurement, distribution, and implementation of rural food access infrastructure investments, including cold storage units, refrigeration equipment, shelving and racking systems, and material-handling equipment.
  • Coordinate the rollout of infrastructure projects with partner agencies, ensuring equipment is installed, operational, and utilized effectively to increase food storage and distribution capacity.
  • Develop and maintain equipment deployment records, utilization metrics, and reporting documentation required by funders and organizational leadership.
  • Monitor partner agency use of infrastructure investments and conduct site visits to assess effectiveness, compliance, sustainability, and overall impact.
  • Analyze equipment utilization and distribution data to measure increases in product volume, product variety, storage capacity, and food access throughout rural communities.
  • Work collaboratively with partner agencies to identify operational barriers and implement solutions that maximize the impact of infrastructure investments.
  • Ensure rural infrastructure investments contribute to measurable improvements in food availability and access in every rural county within SHBB's service area.
  • Prepare reports, success stories, and outcome data demonstrating the impact of rural food expansion initiatives for grant compliance, funder reporting, and organizational planning.
  • Understand and interpret applicable State and Federal Regulations and Laws and Feeding America rules.
  • Evaluate and improve SHBB’s programs while meeting all compliance standards set by Feeding America and the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) regulations.
  • Support other Agency Relations Coordinators in partner and neighbor engagement, training, compliance monitoring, data collection and analysis, onboarding, and technical assistance activities
  • Assist other Community Impact Coordinators in coordination and oversight of the following programs as needed:
  • Child Nutrition Programs:
  • Kids Café
  • School Market Program
  • Summer BreakSpot aka Summer Food Service Program
  • Family Nutrition Programs:
  • Grocery Locker Program
  • Mobile Pantry Program
  • SNAP-Ed Nutrition Program
  • The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP)
  • Senior Nutrition Programs:
  • Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP)
  • Represent Second Harvest of the Big Bend in community-based meetings, as needed.
  • Attend required training outside of Second Harvest of the Big Bend.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications (knowledge, skills, abilities, competencies)

  • Bachelor’s degree or 4 years work experience in related field preferred.
  • Experience with project management, grant-funded initiatives, food distribution operations, logistics, warehouse systems, or community-based program implementation preferred.
  • Ability to evaluate program outcomes and utilize data to drive continuous improvement and reporting.
  • Driver’s license and clean driving record.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work and tasks.
  • Pleasant, courteous, professional demeanor.
  • Ability to work independently with minimum supervision.
  • Attention to detail, accuracy, and timeliness.
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook. The ability to learn and use various software programs dealing with databases and inventory systems.
  • Must be self-motivated and work well with people in a team environment, and can manage time and multiple projects.
  • Must be flexible with schedule when issues or emergencies arise.
  • Must assist in disaster response (i.e. Hurricanes, floods, pandemics, etc.).
  • Must be able to travel within our 16 counties several times per week in personal vehicle if company car is not available.
  • Required to pass drug screening and complete a background check
