What are the responsibilities and job description for the Product Design/Mechanical Engineer position at SECO USA, Inc.?
SECO USA is seeking an energetic, highly-motivated individual with product design and/or mechanical engineering skills for a challenging and rewarding position designing electronic packaging solutions for hand-held, tablet, and human-machine interface applications. The successful candidate should have strong working knowledge of printed circuit board layout mechanicals, mechanical design for rugged applications, human interface product design and be eager to learn about exciting new technologies in the world of embedded electronics.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Designing mechanical subsystems and components from concept through mass production to meet technical requirements, considering environmental factors (thermal, etc), human factors, manufacturability and cost
- Documenting designs with drawings and bill of material (BOM) management, maintaining traceability in PDM and ERP systems.
- Testing and validating mechanical designs against requirements, including first article inspections (FAI)
- Designing mechanical fixtures for production test infrastructure, including high volume mass production
- Monitoring manufacturing and assembly quality and actively engage in continuous improvement activities
- Managing manufacturer and vendor relationships (domestic and international) and initial material requirements planning activities for prototypes
- Interfacing with global teams (management, mechanical, electrical, manufacturing, sourcing, sales, etc.) to manage design tradeoffs, while reporting schedule and cost details to project management
Minimum Requirements:
- 3 years total experience in mechanical and/or product design
- Experience with 3D CAD, preferably SolidWorks
- Working knowledge of a range of manufacturing processes including injection molded plastics, sheet or machined metal designs, and 3D rapid manufacturing processes (FDM, SLS, etc)
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design or related technical field
- Strong and effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
- Ability to work on ITAR projects (US Permanent Resident)
Desired Qualifications:
- Design for manufacturing (DFM), six sigma/lean principles
- Expertise in human factors/user experience design, and/or industrial design
- Design for rugged applications (MIL-STD-810, IPxx, ATEX, etc)
- Knowledge of electromechanical assemblies (LCDs, batteries, antennas, PCBs, buttons, etc)
- Experience with Product Data Management (PDM) and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) tools, specifically using SolidWorks and SAP
- Experience working under ISO9001 and/or AS9100 quality systems, ITAR export controls.
