SEC SHIELD is looking for a Director of Safety and Security that will be assigned to Romeo Community Schools. This is a 10 month (200 day per year) position. Candidates must submit an application by 4:00 p.m. on Friday, August 7, 2026 to be considered.

Qualifications:

  • Prior law enforcement or military experience required
  • Extensive knowledge of state/local policies and procedures regarding the administration of security and school safety programs
  • Extensive experience in related fields of service; previous School Resource Officer (SRO) and/or law enforcement strongly preferred
  • Knowledge of application of laws and regulations
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
  • Demonstrated ability to work as a collaborative team member and ability to establish positive working relationships with district administrators, teachers, staff, students, and community members
  • Ability to work well with others in a fast-paced environment, establish priorities and resolve problems
  • Experience leading and conducting investigations
  • Knowledge of ethical guidelines application to the position as outlined by professional organizations and/or federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations
  • Knowledge of the principles of supervision, organization, and administration
  • Ability to effectively communicate and present to staff, public groups, or the Board of Education
  • Competent with current technology and willingness to learn future technology
  • Ability to maintain complete and accurate records
  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships
  • Flexibility to work some nights, weekends, and during non-business hours as needed
  • Strong work ethic and the ability to make effective decisions in accordance with established policies and procedures
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as SEC SHIELD may find appropriate and acceptable

Primary Job Responsibilities:

  • Lead the District Safety Advisory Team
  • Manage and lead the district's security personnel team
  • Assist in developing and implementing security plans for district events and activities
  • Coordinate with the district communication team on matters involving public discourse and with the media on issues relating to school safety
  • Provide reports to the Central Office Leadership Team
  • Advocate for the District as it relates to school safety grants and state aid
  • Assist with threat assessment, process, and implementation
  • May attend PTO, school board, and various other community meetings to provide information regarding safety and security issues
  • Represent the District in security/school safety matters through state and national organizations
  • Develop and implement safety and security as part of the new staff orientation process
  • Develop training for all staff prior to the start of the school year
  • Assist with investigations in conjunction with school and district administration
  • Develop and facilitate safety and training policies and procedures and lead staff training on various elements of security and safety including behavior threat assessment, de-escalation strategies, tabletop exercises, and critical incident response
  • Develop, maintain and modify district safety and security procedures as needed (EOP' s, crisis response plans, BOE policy/guidelines, visitor entry, etc.). Collaborate with the Board of Education regarding health and safety policies as necessary
  • Provide training and assistance to district and building-level administrators in safety and security matters
  • Create building or grade level specific learning opportunities or video training as appropriate
  • Collaborate with district and school leadership on the implementation of site assessment recommendations and other implementation efforts regarding safety/security
  • Collaborate with district departments (i.e. technology, human resources, etc.) to ensure an efficient process for safety related systems and procedures
  • Serve as the district's liaison and work collaboratively with local law enforcement entities and liaison officer
  • Serve as the lead of the district's crisis and incident response teams
  • Manage state school safety mandates such as emergency drill planning and reporting, emergency operations plan updates and reporting, suicide prevention and Ok2Say
  • Provide guidance and direction related to emergency response and debrief drills and critical incidents as necessary
  • Coordinate emergency training annually: AED, CPR, First Aid, etc.
  • Maintain school emergency kits: Stop the Bleed, Go Bags, student rosters
  • Develop security and safety plans for events that occur outside the school day and community education functions. Train and provide resources for district and non-district staff that oversee these events
  • Work collaboratively with the superintendent on all aspects of safety and security

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $85,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year
