Position Description

Seattle University Student Health Center

Advance Registered Nurse Practitioner

The Student Health Center (SHC) is a primary care clinic providing services to enrolled students. In addition, the SHC manages immunization compliance and is a resources and liaison for the opt-out student health insurance program.

The Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner (ARNP) is responsible for providing culturally informed direct clinical service to students, including assessment, diagnosis, and treatment within a primary care model as well as offering support to the University's efforts to provide a healthy, safe, and accessible environment for students. This position reports to the Medical Director of the Student Health Center.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Within a nurse practitioner's scope of practice, takes histories, performs physical examinations, orders, and interprets results of diagnostic tests, prescribes, and dispenses medications as appropriate via a primarily in-person but occasional telemedicine appointments.
  • Provide anticipatory guidance, screening, and health education to patients to promote and maintain health.
  • Provide emergency care to patients when necessary, maintaining CPR certification.
  • Communicate with patients regarding lab results, advice, follow-up instructions, and referrals.
  • Participate in SHC Quality Assurance activities, provider meetings, case conferences and peer review.
  • Participate in campus-wide health and wellness related events as well as serving on committees as needed.
  • Communicate regularly with clinic administration and actively participate in team meetings for effective problem solving and communication.
  • Contribute to development of the strategic plan, goals, and objectives for the SHC.
  • Build and maintain collaborative working relationships across the university.
  • Maintain currency of licensure, certification, and continuing education.
  • To be able to perform the above job description and functions and other duties as assigned by the Medical Director of the Student Health Center under minimal supervision.

Qualifications

  • Work effectively independently and in a team with excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple patients/clinics needs and to delegate effectively: balance administrative responsibilities with clinic flow needs.
  • Promote positive patient relations maintaining confidentiality, privacy, and dignity.
  • Positive, flexible, and solution focused attitude.
  • Ability to quickly synthesize medical data and formulate effective and evidence-based clinical recommendations.
  • Must have excellent interpersonal skills, ability to work with diverse populations, and demonstrate commitment to issues around diversity and social justice.

Education, Experience & Certification Requirements

  • DNP or Master's degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program and licensed as an ARNP with prescriptive authority in Washington state and DEA licensure.
  • Minimum 2 years' experience providing professional clinical services, preferably in an outpatient setting and/or in a university health center.
  • This position requires a criminal history background check.

Physical Requirements

  • Occasionally lift, push, pull and/or move up to 20 pounds.
  • Repetitive motion of upper body required for extended use of computer.
  • Required specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Compensation At a Glance

Hourly Salary Range: $60.00 per hour

Seattle University has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, and not based on a candidate's gender or any other protected status.
