Position Description

Interdisciplinary Support provides flexible, skilled support across visual and performing arts programs, with primary focus on the Theatre and Dance Departments. This position will assist with scheduling, overseeing electrics crews (student and professional) during lighting load-in, focus, and notes for Theatre and Dance department productions, tool/equipment access, safety oversight, material handling, and maintaining procedures. Additionally, will mentor students in electrics practicum learning passing on professional practices. This position follows the academic year, working from mid-August through early May, with time off during June and July.

  • Support classroom and studio needs by preparing tools, materials, and spaces for interdisciplinary instruction.
  • Perform basic maintenance and repairs on shared equipment and tools.
  • Maintain inventory and safe use standards in shared lab and studio environments.
  • Support small-scale events, talks, or pop-up performances requiring minimal technical support.
  • Model safe studio/lab practice and support community standards of conduct.
  • Must be available some evenings and weekends depending on academic activity.
  • Ensure that proper protocols and procedures are followed
  • Ensure that equipment is being properly maintained and repaired; and inventories updated
  • Work to ensure crew time is used appropriately and to enable the bringing to life of student designs.
  • Communicate with faculty about objectives and day to day progress

Qualifications

  • BA/BFA or equivalent experience in an arts support environment as a Head Electrician or Electrician with leadership experience.
  • High level of technical knowledge of electrical systems, lighting equipment, repair, ETC console programming, and electrics practices.
  • Competency in Vectorworks Spotlight and Lightwright.
  • Broad working knowledge across fabrication, media, and AV basics.
  • Confidence assisting with a range of disciplines (fine arts, performance, media, etc.).
  • Excellent interpersonal communication and organizational skills.
  • Comfort working with students at all skill levels.
  • Ability to lift 40-50 lbs and work flexible hours.
  • Ability to work in high spaces, on ladders, and on mobile elevating work platforms.

Compensation At a Glance

Salary Range: $42,000 - $48,000

Seattle University has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, and not based on a candidate's gender or any other protected status.
