  • One position beginning in the 2026–27 school year


The Classified Nurse/RN/LPN meets the health needs of individual medically fragile students by providing 1:1 care implementing student health care plans including support during district transportation of students, and/or provides care in the school health room to individual students. The nurse complies with laws relating to student health, including parental and guardian consent, provides appropriate care for ill, medically fragile and/or injured students, identifies student health problems for referral and proper treatment, and in conjunction with the School Nurse, provides health information and serves in as a health information resource to teachers, staff, and administrators.

  • Provides one-on-one care for assigned student(s) (e.g. tube feeding, deep suctioning, toileting, hygiene, medication administration, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring prompt, reliable and safe care in accordance with the Individualized Health Plan (IHP) and provider orders.

  • Monitors students in a variety of settings (e.g. school, on buses, field trips etc.) for the purpose of providing assigned student(s) first aid and appropriate care according to their Individual Health Plan (IHP) and condition.

  • Provides feedback to the School Nurse to assure appropriate health care plans and records (e.g. mandated screening, immunization records, etc.) for the purpose of providing information required by legal and professional standards.

  • Provides first aid and emergency care to students for the purpose of supporting the safety of all students, and cares for ill children until they can go home or return to class.

  • Collaborates with the School Nurse, parents, students, health care providers, and other agencies for the purpose of assuring needed treatment, securing information and complying with legal requirements.

  • Carries out plans of care constructed by the School Nurse for children with health problems, meeting the needs of special education students, children with chronic health problems (such as Type I Diabetes, asthma, severe allergies, and seizure disorders) and/or accommodation requirements.

  • Assists with health screening, (e.g. vision, dental, hearing and back/scoliosis screenings, etc.) for the purpose of referring medical conditions and/or providing appropriate care.

  • In consultation with the School Nurse refers students, as appropriate, who require further medical attention for the purpose of providing needed medical/dental treatment, counseling, etc.

  • Prepares documentation (e.g. student health history, current health status, immunization reports, etc.) for the purpose of providing written support and/or conveying information.

  • Reports incidents, accidents and injuries (e.g. students with suspected contagious diseases, suspected child abuse, suspected substance abuse, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining students' personal safety, a positive learning environment and adhering to Education Code, District and school policies. 

OTHER FUNCTIONS:
  • Supports the implementation of the Individual Health Plan (IHP) by school staff.
  • Provides for the essential care needs of students in the absence of the school nurse.     
  • Performs related duties consistent with scope of the position.
  • May provide clinical support during district bus transportation of student.
  • Related duties as assigned. 
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

Knowledge
  • Knowledge of and interest in child and family health care; including preventative health, early intervention, and family health maintenance programs;
  • Knowledge of federal and  state laws regarding sexually transmitted diseases; health standards,  practice, and confidentiality;
  • Knowledge of stages of child development;
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and application of medical treatment instructions and administration of prescribed medications.
Skills
  • Perform multiple technical and nursing tasks with a need to occasionally upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions;
  • Perform medical procedures;
  • Operate standard office equipment including pertinent software applications;
  • Prepare and maintain accurate records;
  • Adhere to safety practices;
  • Willing to learn to operate medical equipment utilized in school environment ( such as insulin pumps, nebulizers and suction equipment);
  • Able to use MS Outlook and Word;

EDUCATION: 

Completion of a two-year (2) nursing training program from an accredited college for the purpose of qualifying for a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or Registered Nurse (RN) license.

YEARS of RELEVANT EXPERIENCE:

One (1) year of work experience as an LPN or RN. 

PREFERRED: 

One (1) year of work experience as an LPN or RN working with school-aged children in a school, community health clinic or pediatric clinic, preferably working with disabled or medically fragile children.

CERTIFICATIONS & LICENSES:
 
Licensed as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or Registered Nurse (RN); CPR/First Aid Certificate; 

Valid State of Washington Driver's License or evidence of equivalent mobility.

CONTINUING EDUCATION/TRAINING:

Must maintain all state licenses and certificates.

CLEARANCES:

Fingerprint and background clearance.

Salary : $65,835 - $91,017
