What are the responsibilities and job description for the 2026-27 Preschool Teacher: Recruitment Pool position at Seattle Public Schools?

Seattle Public Schools utilizes teacher pools for various reasons related to recruitment.

  • Pools provide ability to engage in recruitment of teachers prior to when specific vacancies are identified.
  • Pools provide candidates the ability to create their profiles and refine their application for consideration.
  • Pools will also be utilized for hard to fill recruitment throughout the year as well as for consideration related to potential centralized hiring events.
  • Pool applicants will receive updates and email communication related to opening of site specific postings in the Spring with encouragement to apply for full consideration.

Please note that if you are a current contracted teacher with Seattle Public Schools, you do not need to fill out this application. You will apply directly to site specific positions through the internal transfer application when hiring for the 2026-2027 school year begins in the spring of 2026.

Under the general direction of the building principal or the early learning program manager, and with assistance from appropriate staff personnel, he/she arranges and fosters a developmentally appropriate and effective learning environment; uses designated curriculum and embedded or identified assessments to choose appropriate learning materials, and plans developmentally appropriate individualized lessons; establishes learning objectives and standards based upon District guidelines; provides instruction, counsels, disciplines, and provides supervision to meet the individual needs of assigned students; evaluates student performance and progress.

Reports to: Building Principal or Early Learning Program Director1. Fosters an educational environment conducive to the learning, development and culture of the children enrolled; plans an instructional program designed to meet individual student needs, while affording opportunities to work in small and large groups; prepares developmentally appropriate lesson plans for both typically developing and special needs or at risk children. (25% of time)

  • Uses necessary and developmentally appropriate instructional methods and materials which are age appropriate for the students and aligns learning activities with program expectations; implements established program or curriculum objectives; attends in-service training and continues professional growth through studies, implementing newly learned skills and instructional practices, ensuring use of updated knowledge of development and methods and techniques for instruction which promote student success. (25% of time)
  • Establishes classroom goals and objectives, in conformance with courses of study specified by State and School District statutes, regulations and guidelines; evaluates and records student progress; prepares reports for parents or guardians. (20% of time)
  • Creates, establishes and implements, in a positive and supportive manner, age appropriate classroom policies and procedures governing behavior and conduct; provides guidance, counseling, and discipline in ways that support children to develop self direction and control meeting standards of achievement and conduct; makes referrals for assistance where appropriate. (10% of time)
  • Uses assessment to gather data and interprets data to inform planning and student progress; writes and submits reports for administrative purposes. (5% of time)
  • Confers and builds relationships with parents or guardians, and other staff, maintaining an open positive relationship and provide guidance and evaluation, to support student achievement. (5% of time)
  • Directs the activities of assigned personnel. (5% of time)
  • Attends or participates in required staff meetings, professional development and other activities deemed necessary by the District and/or building principal, in order to accomplish the objectives of the position and for professional achievement.Serves on staff committees as required. (5% of time)

Other Functions: Duties that are not essential, but may be performed within the scope and intent of this position:

  • Participates in a variety of activities to enhance personal and professional skills.
  • Performs related tasks consistent with the scope and responsibility of the position.Education:

Bachelor's degree or eligible educational equivalent based on classroom model which includes knowledge of early learning and development and academic preparation or professional experience with children birth through 3rd grade; academic preparation for or experience in teaching culturally, racially and economically diverse young children (PreK) in an urban school system.

Years Of Experience

Experience providing PreK-3rd instruction, working with English language learners and bilingual students and assisting them in transitioning into the regular classrooms, building relationships with families, and participating in family engagement activities to increase involvement.
