Music Teacher

Seattle Preparatory School is a Catholic, Jesuit college preparatory school with an enrollment of about 790 students in grades 9-12.  We embrace the Ignatian ideals that God may be found in all things, that each person is sacred and that we are created to serve others in community. Purpose: 

Jesuit education, also known as Ignatian education, is an approach to education inspired by the teachings and principles of St. Ignatius of Loyola, the founder of the Society of Jesus (Jesuits), a Catholic religious order. Jesuit education is known for its emphasis on intellectual rigor, moral and ethical development, and the holistic formation of individuals. Jesuit education is not limited to Catholic students, and our own and many more Jesuit institutions welcome students of various religious backgrounds. The principles of Jesuit education have been influential in the development of a well-rounded, values-based approach to education that extends beyond the classroom and into the broader community.

Seattle Prep seeks a full-time Music instructor, beginning August 2026. 

The Arts Program at Prep:
The arts classes at Seattle Prep create and enable aesthetic perception and experiences through preparation, performance and hands-on creativity. The classes are taught by practicing artists to provide an enriching experience. Through the appreciation and analysis of masterworks, through familiarity with the languages of art, through dialogue and reflection, and through the creation of musical, visual and dramatic pieces, the arts come alive at Prep.

Essential Functions:

• Teach choral and instrumental music; responsible for curriculum development, assessment, classroom management, family communication. 
• Full engagement in the life of the school: this includes supervision of students, participation in meetings, retreats, professional development, and all school masses and assemblies.
• Full-time teachers have additional supervision duties (e.g. study hall) beyond the courses they teach. 

Minimum qualifications: 

• A Bachelor's Degree in Music or a related field of study, and a minimum of two years of related experience, or a combination of education and experience sufficient to perform the essential functions of the job
• All candidates must demonstrate a commitment to Prep’s mission and values, especially as it relates to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging
• Supportive of the mission of a Catholic, Jesuit high school and formation of the whole person
• Expertise with a variety of teaching methodologies and ability to teach various courses and grade levels.
• Willing participation in the co-curricular and Campus Ministry aspects of the school
• Demonstrated commitment to professional growth
• Ability to teach various courses and grade levels
• All employees must complete a criminal history background check and safe environment training upon hire and every 3 years

Preferred Qualifications:

• A Master's Degree in teaching, music, or related field of study is preferred
• Five or more years of teaching experience, preferably in a high school, is preferred
• Experience with Jesuit, Catholic education is preferred
• Washington State Teaching Credential, or other appropriate certification is preferred

Compensation & Benefits:

Salary Range: $69,689 - $127,127 annually. Salary is determined based on skills and qualifications. 

Our outstanding benefits package includes an allowance of $20,100 annually (pro-rated for part-time employment) that may be applied to benefits including medical, dental, vision, life, disability insurance and flexible spending account.  Employees who do not elect insurance may choose to receive the benefits allowance as supplemental pay.  Our 403b program includes up to a 7.5% employer contribution when employee match considerations are met.  Tuition remission, generous time off, sick leave, and a school sponsored medical leave program are also significant parts of our benefits package.
