Salary for this position is $54,735.00 - $75,586.00 Annually (DOE)
Under the supervision of the Associate Director of Advising & AANAPISI Program, the AANAPISI Student Success Specialist will be responsible for advising academic transfer and professional/technical students, while also addressing the special needs of Asian American & Pacific Islander and other underserved students. This position includes elements of advising/educational planning, supporting program development and implementation, and some administrative duties. South Seattle College is a federally designated Minority Serving Institution; more specifically an Asian American Native American-Pacific Islander Serving Institution (AANAPISI).

This is an on-campus, in-person role with some options for occasional remote work.
What you will be working on:
- Utilize culturally relevant strategies with AAPI and other underserved students in the delivery of advising services
- Assist with AANAPISI cohort student recruitment and data tracking as outlined by the Director of AANAPISI Program and the Associate Director of Advising and AANAPISI program
- Responsible for advising students in both AANAPISI cohort groups and general student population
- Responsible for supporting and monitoring students in specified areas of study
- Advise students on course placement, score interpretation, and introductory course pathways
- Assist students with course selection and the development of individualized educational plans, with attention to transfer requirements
- Advise students concerning college admissions requirements, college transfer and professional/technical programs, degree requirements and transfer requirements.
- Co-coordinates culturally relevant programming or events implemented by AANAPISI grant staff, which foster academic success and student engagement
- Collaborate with other relevant areas of campus on AANAPISI programming/events
- Assess student progress toward degree or certificate requirements, making appropriate referrals for students in need of academic, personal or career counseling
- Collaborate with faculty in Areas of Study to support student success
- Conduct classroom presentations (in person or virtually) concerning college transitions and facilitate the development of educational plans for students which encourage progression through college.
- Cross-train on policies and procedures for different student populations like Running Start, Basic & Transitional Studies, Workforce, Veterans, Bachelor of Applied Sciences, and Professional/Technical programs as examples.
- Respond to advising inquiries via email & phone.
- Collaborate with Undocumented Student Support Committee to provide relevant support for impacted students.
- Update the Associate Director of Advising & AANAPISI Program with regular program updates
What you bring as a candidate: (Any Equivalent Combination of Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education and Experience)
- Bachelor's degree in Education or related field
- Three years of experience (or equivalent) in higher education with a focus on providing support services and academic and personal intervention strategies with students
- Comprehensive understanding of multiculturalism with demonstrated ability to work with culturally and economically diverse student population, including Asian American and Pacific Islander, and English language learners
- Demonstrated knowledge of college and state academic policies, federal financial aid, and academic program requirements to transfer from community college to 4-year public and private colleges and universities
- Skilled in outreach and public speaking
- Ability to work well with students, faculty, and staff in a team setting.
- Self-motivated, ability to work independently and to organize your own schedule
- Strong organization skills and ability to work on several projects or issues simultaneously
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Demonstrated event planning or program implementation experience
- Demonstrated experience collecting and providing data on student behavior and experiences
