Under general supervision, conduct laboratory animal care, with the focus associated with animal health support duties according to standards set forth by the Guide for the Care & Use of Laboratory Animals (the Guide). Perform health examinations on, and administer medications and treatments to, animals under the direction of a veterinarian. Help maintain full accreditation status with the Association for Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care International (AAALAC). Provide animal-related training to research staff and coordinate Research needs.

Required Education And Experience

High school diploma or equivalent experience. Graduation from a two year veterinary program or four years of equivalient experience with laboratory animal, research animals, animal science, or completing vet technician duties in a research setting. A current licensure, registration, or certification in Veterinary Technology in at least one state.

Preferred

Obtain or posess a State of Washington License as Veterinary Technician (LVT). Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in a medical, biological, or related field. American Assn. of Laboratory Animal Science ALAT, LAT or LATG certifications. Experience with rodent colony production techniques and maintenance. Experience in standard operating procedures, design and implementation. Surgical experience with rabbits, swine and/or canines, including survival surgical experience and maintaining a survival surgery suite.

Compensation Range

$26.51 - $39.76 per hour

Salary Information

This compensation range was calculated based on full-time employment (2080 hours worked per calendar year). Offers are determined by multiple factors including equity, skills, experience, and expertise, and may vary within the range provided.
