About the Role:
Selected Furniture LLC is seeking a skilled and experienced CAD/CAM Programmer to join our Wood Production team. In this critical role, you will be responsible for transforming high-end furniture designs into precise, efficient, and production-ready CNC programs. You will work on complex 5-axis machining for premium wood and composite materials, directly contributing to the creation of our signature seating products. The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented problem-solver with a deep understanding of machining, wood properties, and the full CAD/CAM workflow.
Key Responsibilities:
CNC Programming & Optimization:
Develop and optimize efficient 3-axis and 5-axis toolpaths for solid wood, plywood, MDF, and engineered composites.
Create, validate, and refine production-ready CNC programs using simulation and test runs.
Optimize cutting strategies for maximum speed, precision, tool life, and superior surface finish.
3D Modeling & Technical Documentation:
Generate accurate 3D models, assemblies, and detailed shop drawings from concepts, sketches, or DXF files.
Produce comprehensive machining documentation, including exploded views and setup instructions.
Jig, Fixture, & Workholding Design:
Design innovative, robust, and safe jigs, fixtures, and vacuum setups for machining complex furniture components.
Collaborate with production staff to ensure designs are practical, repeatable, and operator-friendly.
Manufacturing Support & Process Improvement:
Provide hands-on troubleshooting for machining issues and proactively identify opportunities for workflow improvement.
Specify appropriate tooling, speeds/feeds, and machining parameters for a variety of materials.
Maintain and organize CAM templates, tool libraries, and best practice documentation.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
Minimum of 5 years of hands-on CNC programming experience, with a strong preference for background in **wood furniture or seating manufacturing.
Proven expertise in **5-axis machining strategies** and programming.
High proficiency in **3D modeling** and CAM software. Required experience with one or more of: **Alphacam, Mastercam, Autodesk Inventor, SolidWorks, or Fusion 360**.
In-depth knowledge of woodworking materials, tooling, chip load, tolerances, and joinery.
Demonstrated experience in designing jigs and fixtures.
Ability to accurately read and interpret technical drawings and blueprints.
Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in a high-volume production facility or custom high-end furniture shop.
Direct experience with **chair production** and **Bacci CNC work centers**.
Expertise in complex surface machining for curved and organic forms.
Experience with CAM post-processor customization.
