What are the responsibilities and job description for the Admissions Specialist position at Seaside Health System?
Job Scope: Supports and implements the mission, vision, and core values of Seaside Health System. Responsible for the coordination of new patient admissions to Seaside Health System. Through strong professional relationships with emergency rooms and other sources across the state of Louisiana, the Admissions Coordinator is responsible for reviewing new patient admissions for criteria prior to acceptance. The Admissions Specialist must have a working knowledge of hospital operations, specifically including, but not limited to, equal physician assignments, SHS exclusionary criteria, EMTALA regulations, and nursing assessment delegation.
Participation in performance improvement, activities that ensure important processes and activities are measured, assessed and improved systematically.
Essential Job Responsibilities:
1. Responsible for the prompt and careful review of new patient referrals for admissions criteria to be approved by Admissions RN
2. Responsible for developing solid professional relationships with emergency rooms and other referral sources across the state.
3. Responsible for maintain the admit/discharge board
4. Responsible for accurate physician caseload assignments
5. Responsible for maintaining the EMTALA log for patient referrals that come through on their shift
6. Responsible for maintaining up-to-date knowledge of SHS admissions exclusionary criteria
7. Responsible for ensuring the admissions/discharge board is up to date.
8. Responsible for ensuring the insurance verification is accurate and precerts completed.
9. Responsible for compiling new patient charts and new patient automations prior to the the chart leaving the admissions office
10. Responsible for completing the PMP on all new patient admits and placing in the medical record under the H&P section
11. Responsible for ensuring communication with the SHS Outreach Specialist is provided in a timely and professional manner
12. Responsible for answering the admissions phone with a professional and positive attitude
13. Schedule walk-in referrals in conjunction with UR department
14. Understanding the PI function, actively participates in data collection, measurement, assessment and improvement. Attends in-services and educational functions to maintain and increase knowledge base of psychiatric care as mandated by administrative personnel.
15. Provides customer service in an ethical manner, treats all customers with dignity, respect, courtesy and compassion. Works cooperating with team members to reach patient care goals.
16. Appropriately uses time and attendance system and adheres to Hospital HR policies and procedures. (i.e. uniform, badge, tardiness, absenteeism, etc.)
17. Other duties as assigned by supervisor and/or administrator
Education/Experience: Experience in the admissions and intake process for acute care hospitals. Preferably behavioral health. Current CPR and CPI certification is required. Must be knowledgeable and demonstrate competency in current principles and practices which are clinically specific to medical surgical and psychiatric nursing.
