QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master's Degree required; however, no prior experience is required, but preferred
  • Arkansas licensed as a speech language pathologist with a code of 198, 273, 317, 532 or Arkansas State Board License

REPORTS TO:

Special Education Supervisor and Building Principal


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
:

  • Displays knowledge and understanding of District, State and Federal procedures, policies and regulations by adherence to requirements, maintaining confidentiality and completing student records and reports accurately and on time.
  • Assesses students' communication skills for the purpose of identifying communication disorders, determining program eligibility and developing recommendations for therapy.
  • Coordinates meetings with parents, teachers, administrators, support personnel and other professionals to present evaluation results, determine speech and language needs, develop appropriate Individualized Education Programs, and monitor progress of students.
  • Serves as a member of a multidisciplinary team as appropriate; participates effectively as a team member; contributes creative solutions to problems; assumes case management responsibilities; uses training and experience to support classroom instruction.
  • Instructs assigned support staff for the purpose of providing information on communicative disorders, use of assistive devices and feeding techniques and/or implementing individual education plans.
  • Interprets medical reports within the scope of a Speech Language Pathologist practice for the purpose of providing information and ensuring that therapy/treatment goals are appropriate.
  • Develops appropriate IEPs based on students' strengths and weaknesses, choosing materials to meet the needs, age, and cultural differences of individual students.
  • Schedules interventions using a variety of service delivery models, including classroom intervention, consultation/collaboration and pull-out as appropriate to meet student needs in the least restrictive setting.
  • Uses systematic procedures for review of student progress through the use of documentation on charts, records, and IEP progress reports.
  • Prepares a variety of manual and electronic documents, files and records (e.g. activity logs, correspondence, memos, Medicaid billings and other required documentation) for the purpose of documenting activities, providing written reference and/or conveying information.
  • Researches a variety of topics including, resources and methods (e.g. intervention and treatment techniques, assessment tools and methods, community resources, etc.) for the purpose of determining the appropriate approach for addressing students' needs.
  • Provides speech and language services to individual and small groups of students for the purpose of minimizing the adverse impact of speech and language disorders on student success.
  • Provides and follows schedules for assigned schools and informs appropriate personnel of departures from schedule.
  • Participates in professional development, curriculum development meetings and ongoing training to further develop specialized skills.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
