Position Overview
Our Accounting Firm is seeking a detail-oriented Payroll Processor to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for processing multiple client payrolls each week, ensuring timely payment of payroll taxes, filing payroll reports by required deadlines, and handling year-end payroll reporting including W-2s. The position also includes assisting with light bookkeeping duties as needed.
Key Responsibilities
- Process weekly, biweekly, and monthly payrolls for multiple clients across various industries
- Accurately calculate and remit federal, state, and local payroll taxes
- Prepare and file payroll tax reports (e.g., 941, 940, state withholding/unemployment) by stated deadlines
- Complete year-end payroll processing, including reconciling and filing W-2s and related forms
- Maintain payroll records and ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements
- Communicate professionally with clients regarding payroll inquiries and issues
- Assist with light bookkeeping tasks such as data entry, reconciliations, and journal entries as needed
- Stay current on payroll laws and best practices
Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of experience in payroll processing, preferably in a multi-client/accounting firm environment
- Understanding of federal and state payroll tax regulations
- Experience with Quicbooks Online payroll software
- Enter and verify data related to hours worked, benefits administration, tax information, and deductions with meticulous attention to detail
- Reconcile payroll accounts through general ledger accounting practices including journal entries, account reconciliation, debits & credits, and double entry bookkeeping
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations by preparing and submitting accurate tax filings and reports
- Maintain comprehensive records of payroll transactions, employee benefits, and related documentation for audit readiness
- Assist in accounts payable and receivable processes related to payroll expenses and reimbursements
- Perform analysis of payroll data to identify discrepancies or errors and implement corrective actions promptly
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Ability to prioritize and meet multiple deadlines
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Bookkeeping or accounting experience a plus
- High level of integrity and respect for client confidentiality
