Job Title: Residential Relief Houseparent (Married Couple)

Seamark Ranch is seeking a mature, dedicated husband and wife team to serve as Residential Relief Houseparents. This role provides scheduled respite for full-time houseparents by managing the home and caring for children during their time away. Relief Houseparents model Christ-like family life, create a therapeutic but structured environment, and support the emotional, spiritual, and physical development of each child in alignment with Seamark’s mission.
Relief Houseparents may also assist in property upkeep, chores, errands, and various Ranch duties as assigned.
Spiritual Development
- Model Christian values and conduct.
- Lead daily devotions and attend worship with children.
- Foster an environment that encourages personal faith in Jesus Christ.
Emotional Development
- Build trust and nurture children based on their emotional needs.
- Support children through crises in coordination with counselors.
- Maintain confidentiality and fulfill mandatory reporting obligations.
Social & Recreational Development
- Organize social outings and playtime.
- Support healthy habits in dress, behavior, and social interaction.
- Ensure time for outdoor recreation, privacy, and balanced routines.
Educational Support
- Provide daily study time and homework assistance.
- Communicate with teachers, tutors, and academic staff.
- Encourage involvement in extracurricular and school activities.
Discipline
- Implement consistent, fair discipline using natural consequences.
- Never use corporal punishment.
- Refer serious behavioral issues appropriately.
Physical & Practical Care
- Oversee chores, meal preparation, hygiene, and health routines.
- Supervise laundry, clothing care, and medication administration.
- Provide nutritious meals and model good stewardship at home.
Home & Ranch Maintenance
- Maintain home cleanliness and report needed repairs.
- Assist in landscaping, equine, and agricultural chores as assigned.
Team Collaboration
- Communicate with houseparents and staff about child progress.
- Attend meetings, trainings, and devotions when on duty.
- Submit written reports and required documentation.
Relief Houseparents typically work 4-day, 3-night shifts (Thursday–Sunday) and may also provide evening or extended relief coverage (e.g., for vacations, emergencies, or Ranch needs). This is a live-in position, and changeovers are coordinated to ensure continuity of care.
- Married couple (minimum 2 years), both at least 25 years old
- High school diploma or GED required
- Prior experience with children (trauma-informed care preferred)
- Active in a local Christian church and aligned with Seamark’s mission
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
- Clear background checks, drug screening, and good credit history
- Willingness to complete 40 hours of training annually, including TBRI
- Must reside within commuting distance of Seamark Ranch or be willng to relocate.
