JOB DESCRIPTION - Part-time 2 days per week.

TITLE: School Psychologist

Qualifications:

1. Must possess an Educational Specialist or Doctorate Degree in School Psychology.

2. Eligible for a Kansas license as a School Psychologist.

REPORTS TO: Director of Special Services

JOB GOAL: School Psychologists work with parents, educators and other professionals to identify research- based services to help children succeed academically, socially, behaviorally, and emotionally.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • School Psychologists will perform psychological services through appropriate testing and diagnostic practices. This will include informed parental consent.

  • School Psychologists will encourage and promote parental participation in decisions affecting their child’s education.

  • School Psychologists will respect a person’s right to determine whether to disclose private information and minimize intrusions on privacy.

  • School Psychologists will use their expertise to cultivate a school and community climate that is safe and welcoming to all persons. This will include all children’s right to have an equal opportunity to participate in and benefit from school programs.

  • School Psychologists will engage in continued professional development and remain current on best practice procedures.

  • School Psychologists will recognize the strengths and limitations of their training and experience, engaging only in practice for which they are qualified and will be honest with their qualifications to others.

  • School Psychologists will accept responsibility for the appropriateness of their practices, decisions and recommendations and will monitor the effectiveness of their services.

  • School Psychologists use assessment techniques and practices that the profession considers to be responsible and research-based. This will include:

o Using testing instruments with up-to-date normative data.

o Completing comprehensive evaluations including GRIOT.

o Remaining up-to-date on KSDE exceptionality eligibility criteria and practices.

o Conducting valid and fair assessments in regards to a student’s developmental, disabilities, linguistic, cultural and experiential background and select, administer and interpret assessments in light of those characteristics.

  • School Psychologists will complete required paperwork (evaluations, testing consent, reports, prior written notices, etc.) in a timely manner and in accordance with Special Education law.

  • School Psychologists will respect the privacy of school psychological records.

  • School Psychologists will be aware and cautious of the impact of relationships and conflict of interest while providing psychological services.

  • School Psychologists will work with multi-disciplinary teams, including community health and social welfare agencies to understand the child holistically.

  • School Psychologists provide effective services and systems consultation; school psychologists are knowledgeable about the organization, philosophy, goals, objectives, culture, and methodologies of the settings in which they provide services.

  • School psychologists develop partnerships and networks with community service providers and agencies to provide seamless services to children and families.

  • School Psychologists are knowledgeable of the Special Education law and are a responsible party in sharing this knowledge to other professionals and families.

  • School Psychologists will attend staff, professional and interagency meetings.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Ten month year
