Definition:

  • Provides maintenance and repair of all company vehicles as directed.
  • Completes regularly scheduled preventative maintenance of ambulances and other fleet vehicles as directed.
  • Coordinates with area Fleet Manager and/or Operations management regarding outsourcing of selected maintenance and/or repair activities to dealers and other repair shops.
  • Documents maintenance and repair of company vehicles as per company policy.

 

Reports To:

  • Local area Operations management or Fleet Manager for all activities.

 

Specific Duties:

  • Demonstrates complete knowledge, understanding and compliance of company policies and procedures.
  • at all times.
  • Provides maintenance and repair of all company vehicles as directed.
  • Completes regularly scheduled preventative maintenance of ambulances and other fleet vehicles as directed.
  • Provides “roadside” assistance to staff with company vehicles that have broken down or having serious mechanical issues.
  • Trouble shoots, diagnosis and repairs fleet vehicle:
  • Drive Train
  • Suspension & Steering
  • Electrical & Electronics
  • Heating, Ventilation & Air Conditioning
  • Tires & Rims
  • Trouble shoots, diagnosis, repairs and installs in coordination with outside vendors:
    • Oxygen and Medical Air Systems
    • Radios, Cell Phones, Modems, Computers, GPS Units, Cameras.
    • Radios, Cell Phones, Modems, Computers, GPS Units, Cameras and other mounts.
  • Coordinates with area Fleet Manager and/or Operations management regarding outsourcing of selected maintenance and/or repair activities to dealers and other repair shops.
  • Ensures the security of all company computer systems by adhering to security procedures and utilizing appropriate passwords policies.
  • Ensures security of buildings, vehicles, equipment, supplies, systems and all other company property.
  • Acts at all times with his/her personal safety in mind, as well as the safety of others.
  • Maintains security and privacy of all company and patient information at all times in accordance HIPPA and all other local, state and federal regulations.
  • Maintains security and privacy of all confidential and proprietary company information at all times in accordance with company policy.
  • Reports to assigned shifts properly groomed and attired and on time unless the proper notification has been made.
  • Ensures that all tools and equipment are ready for use at the beginning of each shift.
  • Performs daily inspections of their work area for cleanliness and for safety hazards. Then performs the appropriate housekeeping duties to ensure their work area are clean, free from clutter, sanitary and safe.
  • At all times sets an example of professionalism and leadership for others to follow.
  • Advises supervisor of low inventory of parts and/or ship supplies so that they can be ordered.
  • Advises supervisor of need for parts for specific maintenance or repair projects so that they can be ordered.
  • Organizes, codes and forwards to supervisor all documents and parts invoices related to maintenance and/or repairs of vehicles.
  • Documents maintenance and repair of company vehicles as per company policy.
  • Accepts responsibility for recertification as ASE/EVT Mechanic and for other licenses’ and certifications as required by company, local, regional, and state policies, regulations or laws.
  • Performs other duties related to fleet maintenance as directed.
Qualifications:

Minimum Requirements:

  • Must have own set of basic automotive tools.
  • Must be able to type/keyboard at least 20 WPM.
  • Must have a working knowledge of personal computers.
  • Must have basic administrative skills including organizing, filing and basic math.
  • Must be licensed with the appropriate level of state motor vehicle operator's license.
  • Must have a clean driving record as approved by company vehicle liability insurer.
  • Must have the ability to work efficiently with minimal supervision, using good judgement.
  • Must have good project management skills and be able to simultaneously work on multiple projects.
  • Must have training and knowledge of automotive shop procedures for the proper disposal of waste oil, gasoline, diesel fuel, antifreeze and other automotive liquids.
  • Must have training and knowledge of automotive shop safety procedures including SDS, proper use   of PPE, safe use and storage of flammable liquids and the proper disposal of rags and other waste contaminated with oil or other flammable liquids.
  • Adheres to Universal Precautions/Body Substance Isolation when dealing with materials found in patient transport vehicles.
  • Must have a basic knowledge of gasoline and diesel engine service and repair.
  • Must have at least two (2) years’ experience as a mechanic, including work on gasoline and diesel truck engines, suspension, steering and brake systems.
  • EVT Certification (Ambulance Technician Level) at Level I and Level II or completion of certification within one year of hire.  
  • ASE Certifications (Medium-Heavy Vehicle Technician) in Diesel Engines, Electrical & Electronic Systems, Suspension & Steering and Brakes or completion of certification within one year of hire.  

Physical Requirements:

  • The ability to reach, push and pull.
  • The ability to stand for extended periods of time while.
  • The ability to life and maneuver 150 pounds without difficulty.
  • The ability to bend, stoop, squat and kneel for long periods of time.
  • The ability to complete all job duties during any and all hours of the day and night.
