Role: Crisis Counselor within the Emergency Services program, providing hospital pre-admission screening for mental health, substance use, and developmental disabilities.
Responsibilities: Conduct assessments of imminent risk related to mental illness or co-occurring disorders, evaluate mental status and diagnosis during emergencies, collaborate with community clinicians on crisis disposition and triage, and perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications & Skills: Knowledge of Virginia statutory provisions on confidentiality and hospitalization procedures, ability to document assessments and service activities effectively, and expertise in diagnosing and intervening with individuals experiencing mental health or substance use crises. Must understand risk assessment criteria and duty to warn. Requires at least one year of clinical experience with serious mental illness or substance use disorders, a valid driver’s license, a master's degree in a human services field, and appropriate licensure or certification including DBHDS Preadmission Screening Certification.
Additional Requirements: On-call availability during evenings, weekends, and holidays. The role emphasizes adherence to legal and procedural standards for crisis intervention and hospitalization screening.
