WATER DISTRIBUTION SUPERINTENDENT
Duties include a variety of skilled and semi-skilled technical work in the operation of the Water Distribution Department.
Purpose of Position:
Responsible for the overall leadership, operation, maintenance, and reliability of the Authority’s water distribution system. This position provides strategic and day-to-day oversight of distribution personnel, ensures regulatory compliance, drives operational efficiency, and maintains a high standard of safety, customer service, and system performance.
This role is accountable for workforce performance, emergency response, asset reliability, and continuous improvement of distribution operations. Responsibilities include overseeing system maintenance programs, coordinating emergency and planned work, and ensuring that distribution infrastructure is operated and maintained in a manner that supports system integrity and regulatory requirements.
The Water Distribution Superintendent works closely with Engineering, Construction, and other departments to support capital improvement projects, system planning, and operational coordination. This position plays a critical role in protecting the Authority’s infrastructure by ensuring work is performed safely, efficiently, and in alignment with long-term operational and maintenance needs.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Florida Driver’s License in good standing
• FDEP Level 3 Water Distribution license with the requirement to obtain a FDEP Level 2 License within 12 months and a Class 1 license within 24 months of being hired
• High School graduate or equivalent
• Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in water distribution or related field, including demonstrated supervisory or leadership experience
• Distribution Technical Backflow Preventer Technical Certificate or the ability to obtain within 12 months of hire
• Any equivalent combination of education, experience, and training may be considered.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Three (3) years supervisory experience
• Associate’s degree or higher in water utility management, engineering technology, or related field
• Advanced certifications (e.g., backflow, valve maintenance programs, asset management systems)
• Experience with GIS, asset management, or CMMS systems
• FDEP Class II or Class I Water Distribution License
Salary range: (PG 59): $34.78 to $56.56 hourly.
Outside Hire Starting Pay Range: $34.78 to $45.67 hourly depending on qualifications and experience
