Must also be a certified Medical Assistant and will be required to float and cover as needed in the clinical setting to meet patient care needs. Job Description: Reporting to the Clinic Manager, this multi-functional position is primarily responsible for administrative tasks associated with insurance verification and obtaining insurance authorizations necessary for pre-registration and scheduling of appointments and procedures. Must also be a certified Medical Assistant and will be required to float and cover as needed in the clinical setting to meet patient care needs. Essential Responsibilities Collects/verifies accurate demographic and insurance information ensuring effective reimbursement Identifies all possible payers for services; ensures coordination of benefits and arranges for financial counseling if needed. Verifies patient eligibility and benefits. Coordinates referrals/authorizations for services. Pre-registers patients and may schedule upcoming appointments. Acts as a liaison between the hospital, patient, physician offices and payers. Documents patient accounts completely and accurately. Submits billing information and documentation as required for appropriate reimbursement. Follows up on all denials. Works collaboratively with other departments to ensure a smooth workflow throughout the organization. Maintains open and courteous communication and telephone skills with patients and family members, patient representatives, providers and co-workers. Responsible for obtaining updated insurance guidelines to meet billing requirements. Attends offsite training as indicated. Responsible for data entry, audits, and creates and generates reports as requested. Readily assists in maintaining staffing levels by covering for other staff as needed. Must maintain all clinical competencies as required for a Medical Assistant. Other duties as assigned. Job Requirements Education High School Diploma or equivalent. Experience Medical office experience (1yr) preferred as a Medical Assistant Minimum 1yr experience associated work with health insurance and third-party reimbursement. Required Licenses/Certifications Current Medical Assistant Certification and/or completion of a Medical Assistant certification program BLS Functional Demands Physical Demands Prolonged sitting; use of computer; telephone and/or headset Able to assist patients with ambulation and transfer to exam table. Work Environment Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor at all times in a fast-paced medical office setting. Age-Specific Criteria Patient care provider for adolescent, adult and geriatric population. Pay Range: $22.05 - $29.68 The pay range listed for this position is the base hourly wage range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time. Actual compensation is determined based on several factors, that may include seniority, education, training, relevant experience, relevant certifications, geography of work location, job responsibilities, or other applicable factors permissible by law. Compensation may exceed the base hourly rate depending on shift differentials, call pay, premium pay, overtime pay, and other additional pay practices, as applicable to the position and in accordance with the law.
