Job Summary:

Brooklets Toys is searching for a dynamic and enthusiastic team member to join our toy store as a Retail Associate. We need someone who is passionate about toys, loves interacting with customers, and takes pride in maintaining a clean and organized store environment. If you're ready to play, learn, and contribute to making our toy store the best it can be, we want you on our team! Brooklets Toys is seeking an excellent team member to help make a visit to our toy store a fun and memorable experience for our guests! We're looking for someone who loves to PLAY, and is interested in researching and learning about the merchandise we carry and what makes everything so great. You should enjoy demonstrating products for customers, talking about your favorites, and suggesting items for specific age groups, interests, and occasions. Aside from providing excellent customer service, Brooklets is looking for someone who will value the PRESENTATION of our shop and merchandise. Keeping all areas of our store neat, clean, and organized is a top priority. We'd like to find someone who takes pride in keeping our space looking beautiful, and who would not feel right about sitting down until everything is in place and sparkling! You MUST be able to work independently for long periods of time with little supervision. You will need to keep up with a hectic pace when things are busy, and be able to recognize and complete tasks that will benefit the business when things are slow. Our ideal team member will possess the creativity, initiative and strong work-ethic it takes to recognize that there is ALWAYS so much to do to help make our toy store the BEST toy store ever. :)

Job Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions):

  • Become knowledgeable about our merchandise through hands-on play, research, and guidance from our team lead.
  • Demonstrate products, answer questions, and make personalized recommendations to enhance the shopping experience.
  • Process sales transactions accurately and efficiently, including cash, card, and gift card transactions.
  • Provide gift wrapping services promptly upon request.
  • Offer assistance in retrieving items for customers, even if they're out of reach.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization throughout the store, including the sales floor, stockroom, and checkout areas.
  • Restock merchandise as needed and ensure displays are attractive and well-maintained.
  • Keep running lists of inventory needs, customer suggestions, and ideas for product expansion or events.
  • Receive shipments, unpack boxes, and process new merchandise according to instructions.
  • Merchandise and display items creatively to enhance the overall store aesthetic.
  • Assist customers with remote purchases and shipping arrangements as needed.
  • Adhere to opening and closing procedures with attention to detail and consistency
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Able to climb ladders, lift moderately heavy items, and maneuver in tight spaces safely.

Qualifications:

  • Education: High School Diploma or equivalent work and educational experience.
  • Previous customer service or retail experience required.
  • Sales and customer service experience preferred.
  • Basic computer skills for POS transactions and inventory management.
  • Cash handling experience.
  • Ability to wrap gifts neatly and efficiently.
  • Understanding of merchandising principles.
  • Basic math skills for calculations.
  • Art, design, or photography skills are a plus.
  • A good sense of humor is highly appreciated!
  • Available to work shifts as needed, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, to accommodate fluctuating business needs and staffing requirements.
  • All candidates must pass a background check prior to employment.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift, carry, push, pull, or move objects up to 25 pounds frequently and up to 50 pounds occasionally.
  • Frequent, bending, kneeling, and reaching.
  • Ability to stand and walk moderate distances for the entire shift.

Employment Status: Part-time

Hourly Rate: $17 per hour
