YOUR OPPORTUNITY

We have an exciting Vice President of Sales & Marketing opportunity in our Merriam, Kansas office. The Vice President of Sales and Marketing position will hold the overall responsibility for designing, developing, and delivering the sales strategy globally for Seaboard Foods. This role will lead all commercial activity to include sales, marketing, innovation, communications and sustainability, leading the creation of long-term marketing & innovation plans for our brands and our go to market strategy. The role will oversee this activity on behalf of three domestic pork harvest facilities, three domestic bacon production plants, and a ham boning operation in Mexico. This role requires a strategic thinker with proven leadership experience and demonstrated success in delivering measurable results that achieve and exceed revenue and margin targets. The individual in this role is a significant member of the executive leadership team and will play an integral role in the overall strategy of the organization (including the Joint Venture Partners).

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop the overall go-to-market strategy and KPIs for Global Sales, Marketing, Innovation, Communications, and Sustainability across foodservice, retail, processor, and export channels, including inside sales, pricing, and product line management.
  • Provide leadership and drive accountability of the sales organization in a manner that ensures exceptional service to all stakeholders and delivers market differentiation and competitive advantage.
  • Accelerate Value Added growth by building a pipeline of innovation in sausage, hams and additional offerings.
  • Accountable for the overall organization, planning, direction and coordination of the sales organization for Seaboard Foods.
  • Regularly report to Joint Venture Partners on results of commercial operations.
  • Identifies, develops, or evaluates marketing strategy, based on knowledge of establishment objectives, market characteristics, and cost and markup factors.
  • Develop and implement sales effectiveness strategy.
  • Design and evaluate a sales incentive program to motivate the team and drive performance and profits. Evaluate and optimize talent development programs to meet staffing needs and drive sales goals.
  • Evaluate and build marketing strategy driving overall brand awareness and ultimately consumption.
  • Coordinate sales plans with marketing programs to achieve maximum service and effectiveness.
  • Manage go to market strategy regarding brokers vs. direct in each of the five sales channels.
  • Build profitability through development of premium brands and value-added lines.
  • Execute on the businesses' five-year plan for expansion into additional value-added product categories
  • Work with plants to ensure that the right products are made timely to drive profitability and customer satisfaction.
  • Develop relationships with top customers globally. Drive overall customer satisfaction by acting as the voice of the customer to the business.
  • Build data driven organization to facilitate business decisions.
  • Provide analytical support for forecasting and business planning.
  • Communicate Seaboard Foods mission, vision and values, and its strategy for achieving these throughout the sales organization.
  • Direct and develop the annual and longer-term business plans for the sales organization, ensuring alignment with strategy & KPI's, and review and approve business cases for projects and programs.
  • Take overall responsibility for the design, development, and delivery of the sales brand strategy.
  • Lead the collaborative effort between Sales and Finance to manage the overall pricing strategy, ensuring Seaboard Foods is recognized for its integrated business model.
  • Develop and implement annual business plans and monitor progress against plans and performance of the teams responsible to deliver results.
  • Standardize training of sales team to ensure world class pork knowledge.
  • Manage trade spend and overall marketing budgets effectively.
  • Build long term R&D/product development pipeline using stage gate process.
  • Maintain high level of industry, process, product, and competitive knowledge

QUALIFICATIONS

Required:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Marketing, or related field required.
  • 15 years sales experience in a fast paced consumer goods environment and meat protein
  • Budgeting, planning and/or financial analysis experience.
  • Prior experience leading, managing, developing and influencing others.
  • Technical know how from development to production (product, process and pack).
  • Business understanding (P&L, end to end innovation process).
  • Travel 50%, 25% of which will be international.
