Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities:
- Conduct field investigations to determine the root cause of failures, accidents, and performance issues involving a wide range of electrical systems, including but not limited to:
- Residential and commercial building wiring
- Transformers
- Generators
- Energy storage systems (including lithium-ion batteries)
- Motors
- Switchgear
- Insulators
- Overcurrent Protection
- Grounding and bonding systems
- Industrial Controls
- Lighting systems
- Renewable energy systems
- Complete fire investigations, including determining the origin and cause of a fire.
- Perform analyses related to design, construction, operation, and maintenance of electrical systems.
- Evaluate standard of care for various stakeholders, such as engineers, general contractors, subcontractors, service providers, and owners.
- Determine causation and responsibility for system failures, operational issues, and equipment malfunctions.
- Collaborate with a team of multidisciplinary experts.
- Provide technical findings and conclusions in laymen's terms, both verbally and in writing
- Provide testimony in legal proceedings, which may include depositions and court proceedings
- Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional societies
- Responsible for development and retention of clients
- Regular and predictable presence at work
- Other duties as assigned
Position Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering required, Master's Degree preferred
- Ability to learn fire investigation (prior fire investigation experience is a significant plus)
- Professional Engineer registration, or the ability to obtain within a year
- Minimum of five years of post-academic engineering experience
- Ability to accept and integrate constructive feedback
- Diverse knowledge of electrical systems
- Strong writing skills
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills
- Public speaking experience a plus
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to travel 25% of the time
- Ability to lift 80 lbs.
- Ability to remove large and or heavy artifacts from fire scenes
- Ability to carry equipment (shovels, camera, evidence case, etc.) up flights of stairs
- Ability to maneuver in and around buildings and structures and climb ladders
- Ability to drive in all conditions
- Ability to fly on airplanes
- Ability to effectively communicate with clients and colleagues
- Ability to visually inspect job sites and relevant artifacts
- Ability to wear personal protective equipment as required by the work site
- Ability to learn a new industry and obtain required certifications
Salary : $100,000 - $135,000
