Role Description The Senior Substation Electrical Engineer III is a full-time, on-site role based in Tallmadge, OH, responsible for leading complex substation and transformer-related engineering projects. This role includes performing detailed electrical design for substation systems, reviewing and approving engineering drawings and specifications, and ensuring compliance with applicable codes and standards. The engineer will analyze power systems and distribution networks, conduct technical studies, and provide expert guidance on reliability, safety, and performance improvements. Day-to-day activities involve collaborating with field service teams, mentoring less experienced engineers, supporting proposals and customer presentations, and resolving technical issues during installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting. The role also requires preparing documentation and reports, coordinating with cross-functional teams, and contributing to continuous improvement of engineering practices and processes.
Qualifications
- Candidates should possess strong skills in Electrical Engineering and Electricity, with a solid understanding of principles, equipment, and safety practices.
- Candidates should possess experience in Power Systems and Power Distribution, including analysis, protection, coordination, and reliability planning.
- Candidates should possess expertise in Electrical Design for substations and related infrastructure, including drawings, specifications, and system layouts.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related field; advanced degree or professional certification (e.g., PE license) is preferred.
- Several years of progressive experience in substation, transmission, or distribution engineering, preferably in industrial or utility environments.
- Proficiency with power system modeling and design tools, and familiarity with relevant industry standards (e.g., IEEE, NEC, NESC).
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities, with attention to detail and focus on safety and reliability.
- Effective communication skills, ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, and aptitude for mentoring other engineering professionals.
- Willingness to work on-site in Akron, OH and occasionally visit customer or field locations as project needs require.
