What are the responsibilities and job description for the Structural Engineer position at SDI Structures?
SDI Structures is a structural engineering firm in downtown Ann Arbor. We design buildings across higher education, athletics, healthcare, K through 12 schools, and commercial work, both in Southeast Michigan and nationally. Much of our portfolio is institutional work for clients such as the University of Michigan and Michigan State University. We are a close knit and client focused team, which means early career engineers get real design responsibility and direct mentorship from licensed PE and SE engineers.
The role: You will contribute to structural design on active building projects from concept through construction. You will work across concrete, steel, wood and mass timber, and masonry, collaborate directly with our principals and project engineers, and get exposure to the full project lifecycle including construction administration and field visits.
What we are looking for:
- Bachelor's or Master's in Civil or Structural Engineering. Master's preferred.
- 0 to 4 years of building structural design experience. New graduates are encouraged to apply.
- FE passed, or able to pass within the first year, and working toward the PE.
- Familiarity with Revit. Exposure to ETABS, SAP2000, or SAFE is a plus.
- Strong communication and a proactive, problem solving mindset.
What we offer:
- Total compensation: $75,000 to $80,000.
- Fully paid health, dental, and vision insurance for you and your family.
- Employer funded retirement contributions.
- Long term disability insurance.
- Hybrid schedule, up to 2 days a week from home. SDI provides your home office computer and monitor.
- Direct mentorship toward licensure (FE, PE, SE).
