South Dakota State University (SDSU) seeks a talented and motivated individual to join our team as Team Research Development Specialist. This vital position advances transdisciplinary collaboration and innovation by strategically coordinating the development of complex research teams and their funding proposals. The Team Research Development Specialist will identify external funding opportunities and proactively build relationships among collaborating entities and sponsors. This position is located in Brookings, South Dakota, and is a 12-month, full-time, benefit-eligible position.  SDSU’s research involves a wide range of fields of study with growing strengths in rural wellbeing, agricultural technology, and bioproduct development. Our researchers collaborate with partners in academia, industry, and the community to find solutions to pressing challenges and support economic development.  SDSU promotes access to and opportunities for all to receive the benefit of and participate in education, research, and service and is especially interested in candidates that can contribute to this land-grant mission of access. Applicants must be authorized to work in the U.S. Sponsorship is not available for this position. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:This position will help advance SDSU on the pathway to being recognized as an R1 Research University. By promoting multi-disciplinary team research and building expertise in, and support for, highly competitive team funding proposals, this position will stimulate and support innovation and creative solutions to grand challenges that vex our communities, state, region, nation, and world. BENEFITS:SDSU offers a wide range of excellent benefits including medical, dental, and flexible benefits, retirement plans, compensation packages, paid holidays, and vacation leave. We offer a generous retirement plan that includes 6% matching, 10 hours of annual leave each month, 9.34 hours of sick leave each month, and eleven paid holidays. Relocation benefits are available per the university’s guidelines. Employees also have access to internal and state-sponsored training as well as reduced tuition for state-supported courses at all State of South Dakota academic institutions. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Valid driver’s license or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire;Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field by date of hire;At least three years of experience developing grant proposals and multi-disciplinary teams;Ability to communicate effectively with researchers and external stakeholders both verbally and in writing through discussions, presentations, and training;Ability to work effectively in a team, take initiative, and adapt readily to ambiguity and changing conditions; andCommitment to SDSU’s core values. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:Master’s degree in a relevant field by date of hire;Five or more years of experience developing grant proposals and multi-disciplinary teams at an institution of higher education;Demonstrated effectiveness developing, implementing, and assessing training programs;Experience working with multiple types of funding agencies, including Federal, State, non-profit, and industry; andA history of successful coordination of multiple, concurrent, large-scale projects.APPLICATION DEADLINE:  Position is open until filled with full consideration given to applications received by 11/01/2023. APPLICATION PROCESS:This system will guide you through the electronic application form.
