A postdoctoral position is available in the Division of Basic Biomedical Sciences, Sanford School of Medicine at the University of South Dakota in the laboratory of Grant Campbell. Research in the Campbell lab is focused on addressing mechanisms of cell death and inflammation during HIV infection using in vitro models. We utilize integrative molecular, cellular, and proteomic approaches to both identify factors within the stress response and innate immunity pathways, and to manipulate these pathways to alter cell survival outcomes. Our goal is to leverage our molecular understanding of these pathways to beneficially impact HIV-associated neurocognitive disorders. The lab is also focused on understanding the impact of drug use on the innate immune response to HIV and other viruses such as SARS-CoV-2 (more information to relevant publications can be found at https://www.usd.edu/research-and-faculty/faculty-and-staff/grant-r-campbell). Motivated candidates with prior research experience in mechanistic cell biology, microscopy (fixed and live imaging) and biochemistry/proteomics will be mentored to develop independent research projects. Salary is commensurate with NIH guidelines. Position will remain open until filled.Qualifications:Applicants must hold a PhD or equivalent degree in molecular biology, immunology, neuroscience, virology, or related fields. Candidates should have a strong background in molecular biology and microscopy.No more than 2 years of previous postdoctoral research (i.e. within two years of doctoral degree conferment).Experience with standard and emerging molecular biology approaches, microscopy, and biochemistry; experience with genome editing and cell engineering is desired but not required.Strong oral and written communication skills are required.Research Environment:The Campbell lab is part of the highly collaborative Division of Basic Biomedical Sciences in the Sanford School of Medicine at the University of South Dakota.
