Position Overview

Scouting America is seeking a dynamic and relationship-driven Philanthropic Advisor II to develop and strengthen relationships with high-capacity donors and prospects who have a strong affinity for Scouting and our High Adventure Bases. This role is responsible for identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding transformational gifts that advance the mission and long-term sustainability of Scouting America.


Reporting to the Manager of Philanthropy, this position demands exceptional interpersonal skills, strong analytical capabilities, and a passion for driving positive change through philanthropy. The ideal candidate is a strategic fundraising professional with experience managing major donor portfolios, building meaningful partnerships, and collaborating with organizational leadership to achieve ambitious development goals.


This position is based on-site in Irving, Texas. Exceptional candidates may be considered for a remote work arrangement.


Responsibilities

  • Cultivates personal and professional relationships with the respective HAB general manager, their staff and volunteer leadership.
  • Maintains a close relationship with the HAB general manager through frequent communication, monthly online or in-person meetings, and quarterly site visits.
  • In collaboration with the general manager, identifies and qualifies giving prospects with affinity for high adventure program.
  • Aligns giving priorities with the needs of the HAB under the guidance of the general manager, the SVP of Program, and the Chief Youth Program Officer
  • Builds-out and provides development support for upcoming and ongoing HAB capital campaigns, including structure and volunteer steering committee recruitment initiatives.
  • Attends and participates in HAB advisory committee meetings and other base-specific special events.
  • Collaborates with HAB leadership on donor-centric special events.
  • Develops and documents cultivation strategies for prospects and potential prospects.
  • Travels to cultivate, solicit and steward six-and-seven-figure donors and prospects in strategic collaboration with other philanthropic advisors or internal BSA staff.
  • Provides direction to staff and colleagues for implementation/deployment of strategic ideas and plans regarding capital campaign and HAB related national endowment giving opportunities.
  • In partnership with Development Services, tracks prospect activity and record data capture into the CRM to ensure metrics are available for reporting to senior leadership.
  • Creates and manages annual goals, strategic planning, and performance plans with senior development leadership.
  • Coordinates online and annual giving campaigns with the Alumni Relations and Annual Support Team.
  • Works in partnership with the Philanthropic Engagement Team, coordinate donor-facing marketing communications and provide recognition and stewardship strategies for major donors.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Competencies

  • Knowledge of: Strong knowledge of the philanthropic sector, as well as the various laws and regulations affecting them. Business acumen and strategic planning.
  • Skill in: Proficient writing, editing and proofreading skills with the ability to gather and organize information appropriately. Excellent customer service and communication skills (listening, interpersonal, oral, and written). A high degree of professionalism, confidence and flexibility that allows the incumbent to work collaboratively and effectively with clients and colleagues of diverse backgrounds. Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel) and the ability to effectively utilize proprietary software. Compelling communication; building partnerships; and building customer loyalty. Strong planning and implementation skills; research and synthesizing abilities. High level of personal and professional integrity and ethics.
  • Ability to: Energize the organization. Excellent ability to prioritize, organize, and manage multiple competing assignments and responsibilities. Excellent ability to work well in a team environment. Ability to develop and maintain a good working relationship with staff, members of the community, elected officials, the media, colleagues in other foundations, and members of the nonprofit sector.


Qualifications

  • Minimum of seven (7) years of experience in major/principal gift fundraising and prospect management.
  • Must pass a criminal history background check.


Preference

  • Master’s degree in business administration or related field from an accredited college or university.
  • Interest in philanthropy and the non-profit community.
