Position Overview
Scouting America, Leatherstocking Council is seeking a dynamic and mission-driven professional to serve as Membership Growth Executive. This role is responsible for driving significant growth in youth and adult membership, increasing participation in traditional Scouting programs, and expanding the number of Scouting units within our service area.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with council staff to identify and engage underserved communities within the service area
- Works with staff and volunteers to identify potential charter partners in these communities to expand Scouting’s reach.
- Cultivates and maintains strong relationships with major charter partners
- Collaborate with existing volunteer committees to develop unit structure, leadership roles, program planning, budgeting, and membership retention strategies; training opportunities for volunteers, and how they contribute to unit effectiveness
- Foster partnerships with school districts and other youth-serving organizations to grow membership
- Cultivate community support through engagement with business, government, and faith leaders to support the expansion of the program
- Promote participation in council fundraising efforts (e.g., product sales, Friends of Scouting)
- Support high-quality district-level programs to aid in onboarding and long-term membership retention
- Goal of achieving a youth membership retention rate of 65% or higher annually, and a unit retention rate exceeding 90%
- Perform other duties as assigned
Education
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university (transcript with the date degree conferred stated is required for employment).
Qualifications
- Must be willing to accept and meet Scouting America’s leadership and membership standards and subscribe to the Scout Oath and Law.
- 2–4 years in sales relationship development, marketing, relationship management, or membership growth – Required
- Ability to work varied hours when necessary, evening activities, and weekend work are frequently required to achieve positive objectives.
- Ability to travel for training at least once a year for one to two weeks.
- A Scouting background is helpful but not required for employment.
- Offers for employment are subject to criminal, reference, and motor vehicle background checks.
- Strong marketing, fundraising, and program development background is highly desired.
- Non-profit, fundraising, or sales experience is a plus.
- Must be comfortable with public speaking and interacting with diverse audiences. Excellent people skills, enthusiastic, punctual, responsible, and creative.
- Self-motivated individual with solid time management skills and strong organizational skills in management, budgeting, and planning.
- Committed to personal and professional productivity while maintaining high ethical and professional working standards.
Any work-related experience resulting in acceptable proficiency levels in the above Minimum Qualifications is an acceptable substitute for the above-specified education and experience requirements.
