Position Overview
The District Director leads membership growth, fundraising, unit service, and program delivery across the council, while also overseeing after-school Scouting outreach, Exploring programs, and STEM initiatives. This position supervises District Associates and after-school staff, and works closely with volunteers, schools, and community partners to expand youth participation and support strong Scouting programs.
Responsibilities
Membership & Unit Service
- Develop and execute annual membership plan; achieve growth goals (5% annually)
- Support and mentor DE/DA and ensure consistent unit service and visitation
- Start new units and expand Scouting access in all communities
Finance & Development
- Lead Friends of Scouting efforts (~$100,000 shared team goal)
- Manage one annual fundraising event (net ~$15,000)
- Support product sales growth
- Oversee United Way funding and reporting; pursue grants and sponsorships
Program & Outreach
- Provide leadership for after-school Scouting programs and community outreach
- Grow Exploring programs with schools, organizations, and businesses
- Support local program activities, training, and camp promotion
- Deliver engaging STEM programming and youth experiences
Leadership & Administration
- Supervise District Executive(s), District Associate(s), and after-school staff
- Recruit and support volunteers and partners
- Maintain program quality, reporting, and budget oversight
- Work evenings/weekends as needed and travel throughout the service area
Education
- Bachelor’s degree preferred or equivalent professional experience
Qualifications
- Youth program or nonprofit leadership experience strongly preferred
- Grant or fundraising experience valued
- Strong communication, organization, and relationship-building skills
- Valid driver’s license, reliable vehicle, and insurance required
