Position Overview
We are seeking an energetic and dedicated Camp Ranger for the year-round care, maintenance, safety, and overall facilities management of Camp Rokilio. Camp Rokilio is predominantly utilized as a Cub Scout camp, which is owned and operated by the Bay-Lakes Council of Scouting America. As a vital part of our team, you will create a welcoming environment for the scouts and their adult leaders we serve. The Camp Ranger plays a critical role in the long-term preservation of camp resources, supports council programs, and serves as a point of contact for volunteers, units, and outside vendors.
Responsibilities

Maintenance & Property Management:
- Perform regular maintenance, repairs, and improvements on buildings, campsites, roads, and program areas.
- Monitor and maintain equipment, tools, vehicles, machinery, and other assets on the property.
- Maintain landscaping, trails, and natural areas for accessibility and safety.
- Conduct regular inspections of buildings, plumbing, electrical systems, first-aid kits, and fire safety equipment.
- Maintain all necessary certifications needed for operating equipment, waterfront, water testing, electrical, light repairs, and other maintenance of all facilities.
Facility Readiness & Support:
- Ensure facilities are clean, stocked, and operational for year-round events, rentals, and summer camp operations.
- Prepare facilities for seasonal use (opening/closing buildings, winterizing systems, etc.)
- Support council program delivery at camp, including set-up, logistics, and resource allocation.
Security & Safety:
- Provide on-site presence at Camp Rokilio; monitor property regularly for security and safety.
- Respond to emergencies and perform basic first-response actions when necessary.
- Ensure compliance with the standards of Scouting America’s National Camp Accreditation Program.
- Ensure compliance with the State of Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade, and Consumer Protection’s Recreational & Educational Camps code.
Volunteer & Staff:
- Recruit, train, supervise, retain, and assist camp maintenance and project volunteers known as “Camp Engineers.”
- Supervise and assist Order of the Arrow Service Weekends.
- Work closely with council staff and key volunteers to identify project priorities and facility needs.
- Provide training and supervision to seasonal or part-time caretakers, when/if applicable.
- Recruit, train, and retain volunteers for the Camp Master Corp to serve as hospitality staff.
Administrative & Planning:
- Maintain records of maintenance activities, inventory, and supply needs.
- Assist in planning and executing capital projects and facility upgrades.
- Manage budgets for routine repairs, equipment, and materials (within guidelines provided).
- Enforce safety protocols by conducting regular safety checks and maintaining first aid readiness at all times.
- Maintain accurate records of attendance, incident reports, and program activities to ensure smooth operations.
Qualifications
- Skilled in facilities maintenance, basic construction, carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical systems.
- Self-starter with strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks across multiple sites and facilities on the property.
- Comfortable working independently and making sound decisions in the field.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
- Physically capable of performing labor-intensive tasks and working outdoors in all seasons.
- Must live on-site at Camp Rokilio (housing provided).
- Previous experience with Scouting America camps, Scouting programs, or conservation management preferred.

Salary Range: $32,568 to $42,000 based on experience and skills.”
