Role Description

This is a full-time role located in Houston, TX for an Assistant ScoutReach Director at Scouting America: Sam Houston Area Council. The Assistant ScoutReach Director will be responsible for supporting the ScoutReach program by coordinating with employees, planning and organizing weekly trainings, managing scheduless, and ensuring the program's overall smooth operation. The role also includes school outreach to promote the program, interacting with youth and school administrators, and providing regular reports and updates to senior management.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Work with staff to train, guide, and inspire them to become great leaders for youth in our program.
  • Achieve progress towards specific goals and objectives which include: program development through collaborative relationships with schools and partner organizations, membership recruitment and retention.
  • Responsible for extending programs to various school districts.
  • Ensure that all program sites are served through adequate number of staff, weekly meetings, scheduled events.
  • Be a role model and recognize the importance of working relationships with school leaders, volunteers and staff.
  • Possess strong communication skills, adept at articulating the program's goals and objectives to school leaders.
  • Provide quality service through timely communication, regular meetings, training events and activities.
  • Have willingness and ability to devote hours as needed to achieve council and district objectives.



Minimum Requirements:

  • Must be willing to accept and meet Scouting America's leadership and membership standards and subscribe to the Scout Oath and Law.
  • 21 years of age or older unless prohibited by any applicable law.
  • Ability to work flexible hours as needed including evening activities and weekends.
  • Ability to spend extensive time traveling within position territory services.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • People management background is highly desired.
  • Self-motivated individual with solid time management skills and strong organizational skills in management and planning.
  • Committed to personal and professional productivity, while maintaining high ethical and professional working standards.
  • Scouting background is helpful but not required.

General Overall Qualifications

  • Strong communication skills and must be comfortable with public speaking and interacting with diverse audiences.
  • Must exhibit exceptional interpersonal skills characterized by enthusiasm, punctuality, responsibility, and creativity.
  • Needs to maintain current driver’s license and automotive insurance and drive own personal motor vehicle for council business (to be reimbursed for mileage at current IRS-approved rate).
  • Employment is subject to criminal, reference, and motor vehicle background checks.
  • Strong organizational and people management skills
  • Experience in employee coordination and school outreach
  • Budget management and reporting skills
  • Communication and interpersonal skills, particularly with youth and families
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Experience in Scouting programs or youth development is a plus
  • Willingness to work evenings and weekends as needed


Physical Requirements: 100% of time

This role involves a level of physicality, and requires the following abilities: reaching, standing, walking, fingering, grasping, lifting, feeling, talking, hearing, repetitive motions, computer keyboarding, driving motor vehicle.

While in office, work is usually sedentary. Must be able to sit and work at a computer keyboard and be able to perform repetitive and stretching motions.

Occasional heavy lifting of boxes, files and equipment (up to 30 pounds); while working at events and camps, position has more physical requirements, including lifting of boxes, files and various equipment (may be up to 50 pounds).


Compensation:

  • Salary: $42,000 annually with bonus potential of an additional $1,500
