Job Purpose
As an Operations Specialist, you will manage the full lifecycle of freight transactions—from prospecting and acquiring new clients to booking, tracking, and delivering loads. This cradle-to-grave role is the foundation of our brokerage operations, combining sales, account management, and carrier coordination. You’ll play a critical role in building relationships, brokering freight, and growing your personal book of business, with the opportunity to earn commission based on performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Client acquisition and sales involve prospecting, cold calling, and engaging potential shippers to generate new business opportunities.
- Book of business growth includes developing and managing a personal portfolio of customer accounts with a focus on scaling long-term relationships and repeat freight opportunities.
- Load booking and negotiation requires sourcing and securing carriers through effective negotiation, ensuring competitive pricing while protecting margin.
- Freight management covers overseeing every step of the shipment lifecycle, from pick-up to delivery, including tracking, updates, and issue resolution.
- Carrier development means building and maintaining strong relationships with carriers to ensure reliable capacity across modes such as FTL, LTL, open-deck, and reefer.
- Problem solving involves proactively addressing service issues, delays, or exceptions to ensure on-time delivery and customer satisfaction.
- Technology and reporting include leveraging transportation management systems (TMS) and tracking platforms to manage loads, maintain accurate records, and report performance metrics.
- Collaboration requires partnering with internal teams to align customer expectations with operational execution.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree preferred, though not required; equivalent work experience in sales, operations, or customer service is valued.
- Experience: 0–2 years of logistics, sales, or related industry experience (internships, retail sales, or customer service transferable).
- Skills: Strong communication and negotiation skills, resilience in a fast-paced environment, and a drive to win business.
