Purchasing Agent - Buyer

Scotvale Electrical Systems is seeking an organized, dependable, and detail-oriented Purchasing Agent to join our team. This position is responsible for purchasing and tracking electrical materials, equipment, tools, and supplies while helping ensure our projects have the right materials at the right time and at competitive pricing.

The ideal candidate is a strong communicator and negotiator who can build relationships with vendors, stay ahead of material needs, and work closely with project managers, estimators, field personnel, and management.

Key Responsibilities

• Purchase electrical materials, equipment, tools, and supplies for active and upcoming projects.
• Request and compare vendor quotes to obtain competitive pricing, lead times, and terms.
• Issue and manage purchase orders and ensure orders are accurate.
• Track outstanding orders, backorders, deliveries, and material lead times.
• Coordinate material requirements and delivery schedules with project managers and field teams.
• Develop and maintain strong relationships with electrical distributors, manufacturers, and other suppliers.
• Negotiate pricing, discounts, freight, and purchasing terms when appropriate.
• Identify opportunities to reduce material costs without sacrificing quality or project requirements.
• Verify pricing and quantities and help resolve discrepancies between purchase orders, deliveries, and vendor invoices.
• Source alternative materials and suppliers when products are unavailable or lead times could impact project schedules.
• Maintain organized purchasing records and vendor information.
• Assist with inventory management and material planning as needed.
• Communicate potential shortages, price increases, delays, or other purchasing issues to management.
• Help standardize purchasing practices and improve the efficiency of the company's procurement process.

Qualifications

• Previous purchasing, procurement, construction, or electrical industry experience preferred.
• Knowledge of electrical materials, equipment, and suppliers is highly preferred.
• Strong organizational skills with excellent attention to detail.
• Ability to manage multiple orders, vendors, deadlines, and priorities at the same time.
• Strong communication and vendor relationship skills.
• Comfortable negotiating pricing and purchasing terms.
• Basic computer proficiency and ability to work with purchasing, accounting, and project management software.
• Ability to read material lists, quotes, purchase orders, and project-related documentation.
• Dependable, proactive, and able to work independently while collaborating with the rest of the team.

We're looking for someone who takes ownership of the purchasing process rather than simply placing orders. A successful Purchasing Agent at Scotvale Electrical Systems will anticipate material needs, follow through with vendors, identify potential problems before they affect the field, and continuously look for opportunities to improve pricing and purchasing efficiency.

Pay: $24.00 - $30.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40.0 per week
