Account/Payroll Technician
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Prepare supplemental and regular monthly payrolls and distribute warrants
- Compute gross salary, overtime and correct pay
- Verify time sheets for regular and substitute employees
- Verify deductions (withholding, annuities, insurance)
- Maintain vacation and comp time earned/taken records, publish balances on a monthly basis
- Reconcile, verify and maintain Health and Welfare benefits and G/L accounts
- Process necessary fringe benefit billings and verify for accuracy
- Take appropriate action in the event of a lost payroll warrant
- Prepare warrant demands from properly authorized invoices and maintain warrant register
- Verify account balances on purchase requisitions; audit open purchase orders
- Validate and ensure accuracy of encumbrance versus actual year to date expenses
- Audit invoices by checking or verifying extensions and matching with purchase orders
- Prepare deposits; enter transfers, deposits, stale dated warrants as necessary
- Deliver and pick up payroll, warrants, deposits, and other errands as necessary
- Maintain and file records for accounts payable, payroll, cash records and all other records
- Prepare and maintain general subsidiary ledger accounts
- Monitor developer fees and facility use applications
- Participate in year-end close, accounts payable close, purchase order system and subsequent fiscal year processes
- Prepare documents and provide assistance for independent auditor review
- Perform other related duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of:
- Generally accepted accounting principles
- Financial and statistical record-keeping techniques
- Modern office practices, procedures and equipment
- Operation of a computer and assigned software
- Oral and written communication skills
Ability to:
- Maintain accurate financial and statistical records and statements
- Verify, reconcile, balance, audit and adjust assigned accounts
- Perform accounts payable and payroll functions
- Communicate effectively both orally and in writing
- Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others
- Work independently with little direction
- Operate word processing, spreadsheet and database management software
- Plan and organize work
- Meet schedules and time lines
- Operate a computer and other office equipment
- Work confidentially with discretion
Experience:
Public School experience preferred.
Any combination equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or related field and/or three years experience in the preparation and maintenance of financial and accounting records is desirable.
