Position Overview
We are seeking a motivated and compassionate Medi-Cal Peer Support Specialist to join our residential substance use disorder treatment team. This is a great opportunity for someone newly certified—or currently in the process of obtaining their Medi-Cal Peer Support Specialist certification—who is looking to build experience in the behavioral health field.
The Peer Support Specialist will work closely with Case Managers and the Resource Case Manager to support clients in their recovery journey, assist with resource coordination, and help maintain daily program operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide peer-based support to clients using lived experience to encourage engagement, motivation, and recovery
- Assist Case Managers and Resource Case Manager in identifying and coordinating resources based on individual client needs (housing, employment, education, benefits, etc.)
- Support clients with basic life skills, structure, and accountability within the residential setting
- Assist with front office duties, including answering phones, greeting visitors, and basic administrative tasks
- Help support daily operations, including assisting with meal preparation/heating as needed
- Assist with transporting or supporting clients to outside meetings when appropriate
- Maintain appropriate boundaries and adhere to all confidentiality standards (HIPAA and 42 CFR Part 2)
- Document services and interactions in accordance with Medi-Cal and program requirements
- Participate in team meetings and communicate effectively with staff
- Model positive behavior, professionalism, and recovery-oriented values
Qualifications
- Medi-Cal Peer Support Specialist Certification (active or in progress)
- Lived experience in recovery and ability to use that experience appropriately in a professional setting
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work as part of a team in a structured residential environment
- Basic computer skills for documentation and communication
- Willingness to obtain a Food Handler’s Card (employer will cover cost)
- CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)
- Valid driver’s license
Schedule Requirements
- Evenings and weekends are required
- Must be reliable and able to maintain a consistent schedule
